“Wonderful venue, if you can stay there”
Reviewed May 4, 2011

The Lensbury is a private club, which allows members to arrange for guests to stay. It has the most beautiful grounds - very extensive and sloping down to the Thames. The sports facilites are varied and many; the restaurant excellent; and the service very good indeed. The de-luxe rooms are wondeful - large and comfortable with lovely views. The whole experience is delightful.

I recently stayed at the Lensbury Hotel as I was attending a Business related workshop.
This is the first time I have stayed here.

Location of Lensbury Hotel is way out of Central London. Taxi from Heathrow is 30 minutes and costs around 40 pounds.

The Hotel has plenty of sports options, and is a good option if attending a workshop at the Lensbury. But is not a good alternative for a Tourist trip to London.

The rooms are small , but clean.
There is free wireless in all the hotel.
The breakfast is the classical Full English Breakfast,.

I also had lunch here and the buffet was good also.

There is a nearby ( 10 min walk ) restaurant, The Wharf, which has excellent food for dinner.

Overall good option to stay if you are attending a wokshop here !

I visited recently with work colleagues for a meeting. The conference facilities were very good, however during lunch the water/refreshments were not replaced as in other venues I have been. The lady at the desk of the conference rooms in the hotel was exceptionally helpful and accommodating. All food was beautifully laid out (self service), served efficiently and a good choice to suit all pallettes. The hotel is luxurious in feeling and the rooms were well designed and comfortable too. Check in and out were very efficient. The bar staff were very accommodating. For those who felt adventurous to play pool, were also catered for. The transfer bus was very welcome to take us to the tube. Overall a very pleasant stay and I would like to return at some point in a personal capacity in the future.

This imposing building was bult as a luxury sports/social facitlity for Shell oil employees.
In marketing it more widely ,an extra floor of attic rooms has been added, resulting in the peculiliar configuration of my third floor "superior" room (361).The ceiling is now about 8 inches lower than the top of the windows, which rise into a little corniced pocket. The generous area of the room makes it seem even lower and more gloomy, despite the very light coloured furnishings. The feeble depressing glow of the compact fluorescent lights makes the efect worse after dark.
Short people might not notice this so much, and would also not be inconvenienced by the bed, which consisits of two adjacent singles of the old pre-metric length, not found outside the UK and rarely now here.Short as the bed is,the bedding manges to be too small to fit-the lower sheet is far too small to tuck in,and the very soft bed base ensures instant creases and discomfort. The upper bed covering is even worse,a small duvet which left my feet and ankles exposed. The provision of a duvet rather than an upper sheet was nor appropriate to the warm weather.
The bath also presents geometrical challenges, with access restricted by a fixed glass shower screen. The plastic bath being slippery, and the side handles being set too far back, one naturally reaches for a very convenient looking handhold on the mixer tap. This has a concealed sharp edge...I did not see any evidence of bloodstains from previous victims.
Apart from these considerations of comfort, the room looks very pleasant, with a fine view over golf and tennis courts to the riverside. There are good teamaking facilities but no cold drinks. The air-con works well, and is of a type which is usually quiet, although in my room it would not be heard owing to the sound of kitchen fans outside, and the periodic roar of bottles being tipped into a skip.
An early appearance at breakfast is rewarded by an excellent varied hot buffet, with the cold items of equally high standard, especially the fruit.A late appearance will be punished by crowds of children, and little chance of getting near the only toaster. This is of the conveyor type, very good for large scale use,but with which many people seem unfamiliar .
My dinner was a set meal in a large function,so that it would not be fair to criticise the food or service on the basis of one occasion.

We couldn’t check in until 2.30pm and had to check by 10am. Our room was not in the main building but in a rather ugly 1960’s annex called the 'Mews' located next to a very busy large car park which made very unpleasant & somewhat uncomfortable walking to and from the entrance of the hotel. This was not mentioned to us on booking the room nor was it mentioned that the cost of the room was in fact plus VAT, something we discovered only on checking out.

The room (633) was very disappointing considering it was suppose to be a “superior” (what exactly do they mean by this??) The room was shabby and non-descript, the bathroom being very small without a bath and room for only one set of towels (the other set being stored in the wardrobe along with one extra soap and body lotion). For two of us, there was only one bath robe to share. The bed duvet was too small for the large, not so comfortable bed, resulting in our feet sticking out. The bedside lamp didn’t work, the air condition was noisy. The window was very dirty and stiff to operate and as the room overlooked the car park, having the window open gave noise from passing vehicles and people.
The complimentary goods in the room consisted of one shower cap, soap, and body lotion containing just enough lotion for one leg. The complimentary tea & coffee wasn’t enough for two people with only three tea bags and three coffees, not enough sugar or milk and only one packet containing 2 mini ginger biscuits which even a mouse would feel hard done by. What’s more, there wasn’t any bottled water in the room.

The breakfast was nothing special and quite disappointing. Obviously some of the cook breakfast was from frozen and the toast machine was an absolute joke; a toasting machine where by you had to do your own toast and by the time this was ready your breakfast was stone cold or if you put your toast in and then went to get your breakfast, another guest took your toast because they didn’t realise they had to do their own. The breakfast continuously ran out and guest seemed to be always asking for more of whatever was gone. The fruit salad didn’t seem at all fresh and was rather tasteless.

A disappointing room and disappointing value for money.

We stayed at The Lensbury as a group attending my niece's wedding at the Landmark Arts Centre, which is only a 5 minute walk away. The hotel staff make you feel very welcome and are very helful. I was lucky enough to be upgraded from a double room to the deluxe suite, which is very comfortable and spacious.
Overall, very happy with the stay at the hotel and I would definitely return if the need arose.
