“Fantastic hotel for an overnight hotel near Heathrow Airport”
Reviewed August 11, 2011

My husband and I stayed here overnight to catch a morning flight home the next day. We chose this hotel because of its location within Heathrow Airport. We had a slight problem with check-in because without knowing we had booked a room where we had to check-out by 6pm (our flight did not arrive until 4pm and we didn't clear customs until 5pm). Obviously, we would not have booked this room had we known this, and the hotel advised it would cost an extra 80 points to stay the night. This was neither our fault or that of the hotel, but rather that of the oline travel agent we used as they did not advertise this condition for the special rate. Nonetheless, the check-in staff were polite and co-operative and worked with us at trying to solve this problem. In the end, they gave us the benefit of the doubt and let us check in, and said that would follow this matter up with the online travel agent. The room looked new (I believe the hotel is fairly new) and the bathroom was covered in marble and mirrors (loved it!). We even had views of the outside area which was nice. We note that even though the hotel is in the airport, at no time do you hear traffic or planes - it is very well insulated from noise so you do not need to worry about losing sleep! Bellboy was lovely and delivered the bags promptly and even helped answer some questions we had about heading into town. Check-out was swift with no dramas. The same bellboy from the day before even came up to offer his assistance with the bags. When we arrived home we were emailed a request to complete an online survey which we happily obliged. To our surprise, we received a reply email to the survey saying they noted our specific suggestions for improvements. All-in-all a great Sofitel experience with fantastic service. We'll be staying here again if ever in transit. Thanks guys!

Spent two nights at the Sofitel (beginning and end of our trip). It is about a five - seven minute walk after exiting Terminal 5. Check in was quick and efficient both times. The rooms were wonderful! Large king bed with spotless white linen. Flat screen TV, adequate lighting, black granite bathroom with separate shower and tub. Good quality toiletries. I actually couldn't find anything to complain about! We never tried the restaurant, though had a view of it from our room. I would highly recommend this hotel to travel weary travelers!

Checking in at 6 pm was slower than last time, with a number of noisy families in the queue, but reception staff were friendly and efficient. As before, the overall ambience was just right for an overnight stay. Club Millesime was excellent for pre- and post-dinner drinks and nibbles. This time, we had dinner in the renamed Brasserie Roux, now called, somewhat pretentiously, 'La Belle Époque'. The Sofitel website makes no mention of the change and still has the Spring menu for Brasserie Roux. An e-mail requesting a reservation was unanswered and and staff obviously hadn't received it. Quite what happened to the connection with Michel Roux isn't exactly clear, but the new incarnation of the rather short-lived, in-house eatery has been brought up to date with a 'Pacific rim' influence. On the basis of what we ate, this seems to have been largely successful. Whilst there's no escaping from the airport hotel feel to the restaurant, the water feature, mirrors, curtains and lighting canopy do a good job of transforming it into something a bit more intimate. As indicated, the food has a strong sense of Thai and Japanese influences on more traditional French fare. Service had just the right balance of professionalism and friendliness. Less impressive were the prices, with starters ranging from £8.50 for a small salad to £15+ for something more exotic and most of the mains in the mid-£20s for quite small portion sizes. Wines were a mixture of French, Italian, Chilean and South African and there wasn't much available for under £32. As with 'Vivre', the restaurant makes the cardinal sin of leaving space on the bill for a tip in addition to a 12.5% service charge. After a comfortable sleep in the excellent king size bed, we had an inclusive breakfast in La Belle Epoque. This was fine, but £17.50 (+ service) per person for fruit juices, coffee and a rather small bowl of breads and pastries was poor value. A 'full English' would actually cost £50 for two guests with the service charge! As before, check out was speedy and it was a pleasure to be able to walk straight into T5.

One of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in.
Excellent room - exceptionally clean. Excellent shower. Good room layout with a big shelf for the suitcase. Peaceful - did not hear any noise from outside. This was bliss after a long flight.

It is a fair walk from T5 along the walk throughs - but you do eventually get there.

Potential improvements
- replace instant coffee with proper coffee and a filter machine
- I checked out earlier than I had originally planned and I felt a little like I was being told off for doing so. Perhaps a slight adjustment of tone of voice would be in order there.

Wow! What a supremely comfortable hotel, right on the doorstep of Terminal 5. The perfect haven if you've got an early morning flight!

We have stayed before at this Sofitel. This time was 30 July and was again to catch an early morning flight from T5. We had room 6319 on 3rd floor.

The advantages of the hotel I see are:
1. Covered walkway about 400 metres from Arrivals in T5.
2. Very comfortable beds
3. Spacious room with walk-in shower in bathroom
4. Nice bar area with plenty of seating and wide choice wines by glass
5. Speedy check out
6. Friendly service in restaurant from Pritesh, Ewa, and Karol

What could be improved?
7. Ponderous slow check in. Why cannot Sofitel share computerised procedures across brands in Accor? Novotel do it much better
8. Belle Epoque restaurant which has replaced Roux Brasserie is a rip off: high prices, small portions and not well cooked.
9. Complicated numbering of rooms. In most hotels, a room number beginning with “6” would be in 6th floor

We paid £162 in advance. We did not have breakfast
