Reviewed August 18, 2014

Stayed this weekend with National Holidays.
Nearly perfect
9 should have free Wi fi without having to join clubs
10 a couple bottles of water in the room for the kettle instead of having to use bathroom water.
Then it would be 10/10
Thanks for a lovely stay x

From initial enquiry with Lauren , events manager, right through to celebrating my birthday with family and friends was a delight. We had nine rooms reserved and checked in 18 people without any problems whatsoever. Some of us went down to the swimming pool , which to be honest could really do with an update and better facilities in the changing rooms. Everyone enjoyed their swim, sauna, steam and jacuzzi .
Where the hotel really did shine was in the restaurant where we were so very well looked after by the ever patient and cheerful Karan and Eve. Also the young chap who re-arranged the tables and chairs to suit us perfectly. Not only did they work their socks off all night looking after us through dinner but later I found that Karan and Eve had wrapped up all of my vases and flowers and candles all ready for me to take home !
At breakfast there were again lovely staff looking after all of my guests making sure they had everything needed. Every single person in our party commented on how wonderful everything had been . Our 3 course meal was delicious , rooms were clean and spacious, staff are brilliant. Thank you Holiday Inn Haydock for a memorable time .

Room Tip: Room near to the lift would save a possible long walk .

Booked this hotel as was attending a music even at Haydock Racecourse in the evening.

Location: easy to find, walking distance to racecourse.
The hotel said there was a shuttle bus for the races but it's just a £3 taxi service. Not worth it unless it's raining heavily or you struggle with walking. It's literally 5 min walk away but then you have to walk another 5-10 minutes along the driveway/road to get to the actual entrance.

Accommodation: nice but not amazing
The building is UGLY from the outside but we were pleasantly suprised when we went inside. Reception staff were helpful. Ask about facilities as we had no info. in the room and I believe there is a spa onsite but it wasn't mentioned. Also, take note of dining times as again, no info. in room. Bar area with plenty of seating. Large queues though due to a wedding party using the same bar. Board games available to borrow and looked like colouring books or similar for children.

Room: nice but not amazing
Can't really fault the room; was neat and clean. Tea/coffee facilities but no biscuits!! :-( Choice of pillows available on request, including hypoallergenic. Shampoo and bubble bath (i think) in bathroom but lots more toiletries available on request. No iron, just trouser press. Free wi-fi for rewards club members (think it's free to join).

Breakfast: good food, service not great
Large selection...cereal, toast, cooked, fruits, meats, croissants, fresh pancakes! Staff not very well deployed. Lots of tables needed clearing but one person stood by entrance doing nothing, just waiting for guests. Would be better to have a 'Please wait here' sign. Same person told us to get our food and go sit out in the bar area as there was no more space. I looked aound and could see plenty of tables waiting to be cleared and many 6-8 person tables with just two people at them. As we didn't feel comfortable sitting in the bar I just asked a couple if we could sit at the opposite end of their table, which was fine. Then asked said person above if they could kindly provide two place settings. Was a long time before we were offered tea/coffee but staff are helpful if you don't mind having to ask. Perhaps they were particularly busy because of the races.

In summary: perfect choice for races and around half an hour to Trafford Centre for a cheeky bit of shopping on our way home.

Well, I feel a little awkward here, because for £49 bed and breakfast for a double room there was very little to fault this hotel. I say very little, we'll come to that in due course.

The room was fine, spacious enough and a comfortable double bed. Plenty of wardrobe and drawer space, clean and light. The bathroom was fine with a shower that even I could understand how to operate.

We dined in on the night we stayed because it was raining biblically - food was fine and the staff knowledgeable and obliging - which was true for all of the hotel staff.

Location is ideal for Haydock races and short walk into Ashton. Otherwise just off the M6 motorway which is handy. And as I say, for £49 including an excellent breakfast, what's not to like?

Well, one thing ...... the price of a drink at the bar. A nightcap of a G&T and bottle of lager (Becks I think) i.e. a half of lager. How much? £10 !! In Haydock!! Not the Champs Elysees or the Place de Catalunya! £10! A mile away at the Bowling Club in Ashton it was £2.80 for a PINT of Fosters.

When we checked out, the Receptionist asked if we had any problems and we mentioned the bar prices - she acknowledged it was the single biggest complaint they received.

So, we'll be back, but not to the bar!

This hotel suited our needs for a two night stay inbetween our holiday. The rooms were clean and the main bed was comfortable, however the pullout bed was a little uncomfortable, I know I had to sleep on it for one night. We had dinner in the restaurant both nights and it was really good on both, Karen the supervisor was excellent on both nights and looked after my fussy son, Lewis and coped with his high demands, I am not sure the GM knows how good his evening team are.

The breakfast was good, but the breakfast team need to smile more.

My only real concern was on both evenings the hotel had weddings taken by place and I have never met such a rude bunch of people in my life, they pushed guests away from the bar, never asked if we were first and they did not care if they swore in front of my son, my wife even went to the toilet and a female guest was sick in the ladies sink and over the floor, then she had to come back and eat her dinner, not what a paying guest should have to see, but I guess wedding party thought they could do what they like, also load of notice until 4am with people banging doors, talking loudly, you should be ashamed. However these issues was beyond hotel operations so I hope for future guests this was a one off. Apart from this issues it was a good stay

just had a great 3 days at this hotel
the room was well appointed and very clean with a large tv
all the staff were very friendly and happy to do anything asked.
the hotel was ideally situated for the races only a short walk away about 10mi
or a shuttle bus ran from the hotel
breakfast was buffet with a good selection
evening meal the first night was a Mediterranean buffet or pick of menu
the next night just the menu not a lot to pick from but well presented
it was my daughters 50th birthday and all the staff the kitchen staff as well all came and sang happy birthday which I thought was very nice.
thank you for a nice stay terry
