Holiday Inn Haydock M6, Jct 23
Reviewed April 7, 2012

We had the misfortune to stay at this hell hole for 2 nights in April 2012, at Easter.
Having booked a 2 night stay to travel to Liverpool and watch the Reds at Anfield, we ended up checking out and leaving the hotel during the first night.

The hotel rooms are filthy, the bathroom had black pubic hair covering the bath, sink and floor. It has obviously not been cleaned for a while.

Worst of all, the hotel seems to be some sort of gypsy party venue with children running riot until the small hours. We complained to reception several times about children running through the hotel and slamming doors and kicking/smashing anything in sight. The noise continued until 2am, at which point we left and found another hotel.

We were offered no refund and even had to pay for a full day's wireless Internet despite only using it for a few hours. The manager made no attempts to contact us after our complaints.

Avoid this hotel if you can help it.

Decent room with comfortable bed. Dinner wasn't exceptional, but did the job. Fine for an overnight stay.

Room Tip: As far away from the motorway as possible!

Myself and my partner recently stayed overnight at the hotel following a function. On arrival mid afternoon we were greeted by a less than helpful receptionist. After some discussion about the method of payment for the room, we were given our room key and instructions on how to get to our room. There was no explanation as to times for breakfast or it was served. Our room was on the 4th floor and we were quite surprised at the poor appearance of the corridor in comparison to the reception area which had clearly been recently decorated to a reasonably high standard. The corridors had been painted but not particularly well. On entering our room we were disappointed to note that it was extremely tired looking. The bed was uncomfortable and the bathroom small. Despite requesting additional pillows from reception before we went to dinner, the receptionist (same lady who was on duty on arrival) did not get them for our room. To be fair the night porter brought them within 5 minutes of our second request.
The one surprising element was the food. As we were staying for a function we didn't have high hopes for the food. We were however pleasantly surprised by how nice it was. The waiting staff were also helpful and friendly.

The breakfast choice was good and the waiting staff were friendly and attentive. The food however was not warm. I suspect that this was due to the fact that the hotel was busy and far too much food had been cooked.

We have stayed in various holiday inn express hotels in the past, which are supposed to be the budget version of the holiday inn. To be fair the rooms have always been of a better standard and we would probably avoid staying in a holiday inn again.

Dear Helen87,

Thank you for your candid feedback regarding your stay at our hotel. We value your feedback as it helps us to improve our services and maintain the very high standards our guests expect. We appreciate your compliments on our room and food quality. We are sorry you received front desk service that was less-than-satisfactory and was relieved to know our night porter did make it right for you. We hope you will give us a chance in the future to show you how our service has been improved.

Stayed for a business awards evening.

Room was ok, not the best decor but the service was great and the food was very nice.

Bar staff were very attentive and friendly and made the evening run very smoothly.

The room was good with a nice HD tv. The bed was fairly hard but that is a personal preference I suppose.

The buffet breakfast is nice and fresh and good value.

It does have to be said though, Haydock is not really a particularly good place to visit. Unless you are going to the races its really in a very poor position for any sites although is very close to the M6 & East Lanc's which makes access easy.

We stayed for one night and did get a very good rate. Hotel is right by the M6 / East Lanc's junction and next to Haydock race course.

The reception and bar area are next to each other, walking in there wasn't the nicest smell. Our room was on the 4th floor and was ok. The child's bed was a metal frame pull out sofa bed - not the comfiest.

We used the leisure facilities, the jacuzzi outlets needed a good clean. Again a bit of a refurb wouldn't go a miss.

The hotel really does need upgrading and refreshing. If we had paid the full room rate this review would have been much more negative!

Stayed here for 2 nights while visiting Old Trafford, great location as it's right on the M6.

On arrival check-in was very quick and friendly.

Breakfast was the usual buffet and was very quiet with plenty of food available and staff were very friendly especially on the Sunday morning.

Leisure centre is very nice and there's no unfair time limits where children are banned which makes all the difference.

The executive room was very modern and had a large tv and mini bar which we used as a fridge, although there was a large function on the Saturday night we didn't here a thing all night.

Will definately be returning here next time we go to Old Trafford.

Room Tip: Executive room was on the quiet side of the hotel well away from the reception and function area.
