I always try to write a review from my perspective and experience, before reading what other people have voiced. So here goes.
We were attending a murder mystery evening which was being held at the Ramada Encore.
We have never stayed at this chain of hotels before so had no perception of what to expect.
The hotel is ideally situated just off the M6 at Haydock and appears to be quite new in its build and appearance.
There was ample parking in the carpark.
The reception desk is quite small and it took a little time to check in.
One side of the desk is the main reception facing the main entrance and the opposite side facing into the hotel is the main bar and I felt quite small for the amount of people it has to serve.
We were met with a friendly smile by the lady on reception and were given a room on the third floor. A single guest lift is located not too far away.
First impressions of the hotel was 'clinical' and 'airy'.
Our room was basic and I got the impression that all rooms are of the same ilk throu out. However One thing can be said our room was clean.
The bathroom had a walk-in shower which I found great rather than a bath but sadly the room had an odour of musty damp. The main bed/living area didn't and as we were only staying for one night I didn't see any major issues by complaining.
There was a hairdryer in the room along with a desk and ethernet connection for internet access. WiFi was non existent in the room and in this day and age I would of thought that this is something that should be provided like running water from a tap. WiFi was apparently available in the reception area but we found it hit or miss to obtain a connection. There was also a small two seater sofa in our room. Tea and coffee facillities in the room was nice to have as well.
A traditional small radiator was next to the bed and this along with being able to open the window a couple of inches equated to the climate control. Sadly no air conditioning.
The double bed was certainly not the most comfortable I have slept in, but again for a night it was ok.
TV reception was not brilliant but good enough to watch for traditional channels.
Overall the room felt clinical and bright and lacked a warm feel.
The evening was very loud in the main area just off reception. There was probably a hundred plus people for the murder mystery and what let it down was the noise of people talking that got louder and louder during the night. I could not hear people talking on our table due to volume. Accoustically, a nightmare, the main area is not cordoned off from the reception and is very open plan. There is an area of couches and seats to chillout less formally, but again you see and hear lots of noise from the main ground floor/bar area/reception.
Breakfast was ample. My bug bear here were the toasters. Traditional pop up, but it took ages to brown the bread. Cereals and hot traditional food was avaliable. Bacon, eggs, beans, hash browns etc... A machine for tea, coffee, hot chocolate and a selection of fruit juices freely available.
The local garage also sells beer and alcohol if you fancied spending the evening in your room.
Checkout by eleven a.m. was quite painless.
I must say the staff were very pleasant and polite.
There is a fabulous pub situated a hundred yards away which I would certainly reccomend.
The Ramada Encore Haydock I felt is certainly a budget hotel. I have stayed in worse and have stayed in better for the money spent.
On a budget then you will not be dissapointed with this accomodation.
