“Attractive exterior”
Reviewed November 5, 2013

The Priory is a remnant of a time when Bridlington was a far more important town than it is today and so it is a little sad; it is situated close to the old town which is worth a brief visit simply to see what a pleasant place it must have been 100 or so years ago. The Priory is only open for a set time each day so we did not see inside but walked around the well maintained graveyard.

“Closed for the season!”
Reviewed October 19, 2013

Sadly it was closed for the season and this should be addressed. Part-time daily opening hours should be on offer to a growing out-of-season tourist trade; besides October is hardly the winter.

“An East Riding gem of a Church!”
Reviewed September 16, 2013

Part of the East Riding Open Day events, Bridlington Priory Church celebrated 900 years, being founded in 1113. Awarded three stars by Simon Jenkins in his book '1000 Best Churches' it is an exceptionally well-maintained Augustinian Priory, and the building is absolutely beautiful. A tapestry, hand-made by the local ladies, depicts its founding and development in truly spectacular and skilful style.
On our visit, there was a small group of singers rehearsing medieval hymns and songs...truly magnificent.
Afterwards we walked the quaint streets of Bridlington Old Town and discovered, in the old apothecary premises, a splendid bookshop!
And to cap it all, easy and free parking!

“A lovely church”
Reviewed August 29, 2013

I love stained glass windows and wood/metal work in churches. And there's lots to look at in he priory considering its size. The volunteers are extremely friendly an attentive. It was a shame to hear that they are lacking in volunteers at the moment. It's a big anniversary for the church this year and they were part way through making a beautiful carving into wood with metal work outside the church when we were there. Worth a visit. Really close to the old town...great for antique and vintage shopping!
