Owner description: Set on the banks of the River Thames, The Mill at Sonning Theatre promises a unique experience where your visit includes a two-course meal and a show in a beautiful converted water mill. Start your visit with a drink (or two...) in the Waterwheel Bar, or, if you visit us in the summer, take a sunny seat on The Mill Stream Terrace. From the bar make your way upstairs to our restaurant with views out over the river, where you will find your tickets and complimentary programme waiting on your table. The main course is served buffet style but our friendly staff will be on hand to take your drinks and desserts orders. After enjoying a two-course meal, prepared daily in our kitchen using only the best locally sourced ingredients, you will make your way into the main event of your visit - the theatre! The theatre itself is an intimate venue, seating just over 200 people, air conditioned with spacious and comfy seats that won't leave you longing for legroom or calling for a cushion. During the year we produce a wide variety of plays in the theatre, including a musical over the Christmas season, and regular music and comedy nights that will have you dancing and rolling in the aisles. Whatever your tastes, in both theatre and food, you will be sure to find something to whet your appetite here at The Mill. Our Waterwheel Bar is also open for artisan coffee and homemade cakes during the day. Pop in and see us from 11am-5pm every Tuesday-Sunday.

We go there a lot for a meal and to see plays. The meal is not 5 star but it is good enough for what you pay especially as the play is included in the price.

To be able to go to a dinner theatre locally is marvellous. It's position is ideal. The building is interesting, the bar and restaurant are well designed. The comfortable seating with excellent viewing and cosy theatre is most enjoyable. If you are in the front row, your feet are actually on the stage. The productions are usually good. We used to look forward to it but only go once a year now because they always have the same sort of food. There are always two or three choices but these have been the same for years, followed by all the same old potatoes and veg on the buffet table. One of the desserts is always bread and butter pudding.
If the powers-that-be read this, please, please, get advice, update the presentation and, most of all, have a more modern coice of completely different food!

there plays are all rather similar but given the configuration of the stage and seating this does seem inevitable
i really prefer the Water Mill at Newbury whose productions are more varied and of really high quality
the food at Sonning has improved although it is still a bit canteenish

Lovely relaxed atmosphere, good food and friendly service. We have been as a family on many occasions. If I had one critisism it would be that the menu could be changed a bit more often.

My husband and I often visit The Mill at Sonning and last week we decided to cheer ourselves up and see a very funny play called "Caught in the Net" which was hilarious . We were so fed up with the rain and floods. The play was extremely funny and the acting was first class as was the meal. It's great not to have to eat and then go outside and find another venue to make a lovely evening. We have already booked another show this month and are taking our two friends along for their first visit. We have never been disappointed at The Mill so will continue to treat ourselves every so often to a great evening out.
