“Doesn't deserve a star - stay away”
Reviewed October 5, 2012

Food was okay, service for restaurant diners was slow and staff were obviously prioritising the takeaway. We gave up after the appetisers and asked for the bill. They then tried to short change me.

“Are you up for a challenge?”
Reviewed September 13, 2012

Having read the (admittedly only two) rave reviews on T.A. for this restaurant (and it being only two minutes from my house) persuaded me to treat the family to an evening meal here!
If you can ignore the fact that the decor was probably due for a re-furb around the turn of the century (but Yes - at least I DO mean this last one) ... Paper peeling off the walls, signs of damp/mould on the walls/ceiling etc, then pull up one of THE WORLDS most uncomfortable chairs and take a look at the menu.
The menu is pretty predictable (just average out ALL the Chinese menus you've ever seen - you get the picture?), but prices are on the high-side of average so the quality's bound to be good - Huh?
Obviously we didn't sample the WHOLE menu, but tried a good few dishes from it, and even here it was like the 'curates egg' ... the Prawn toast was excellent (but how wrong can it go?), but the Deep Fried Wan Ton was truly awful (just imagine deep-fried-cardboard-wrapped-pencil eraser); then the Chicken Satay was very good, and the King Prawn Green Curry was truly a masterpiece, as was the Lamb with Spring Onion (I can't remember the last time I saw Lamb on the menu at a Chinese??), but the Bamboo Shoots with Chinese Mushrooms was Spectacular in it's awfullness (is that actually a word ? - I'm not sure, but it should be!).
Service was well-paced and reasonably attentive, but there were only 10 in a nearly 60-cover restaurant so you'd have expected service to be good, but the staff could have made at least SOME attempt to conceal the cans they were pouring the Girlsberg from (the sole alternative to "Chinee Beer" (sic) - (which actually came in bottles and was not as awful as I expected).
So in conclusion, DON'T go if you expect 2012 decor or comfy chairs, but DO go if you are happy to seek out the excellent from the truly NOT hidden within the menu, and not be charged TOO exorbitantly in the process.

“One of the best outside of London”
Reviewed June 8, 2012

A very good and fairly authentic Chinese dining experience. Good sized portions, good/great tasting dishes. Go early or book especially at the weekends. This restraunt has just changed hands but so far the quality has stayed high. Not the cheapest of menus but then this isn't just a take away.
