“Sublime Restauraunt and Rooms”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 2, 2013

From the moment you arrive at The Waterside the staff and the attention to detail is immaculate. We had a waiter literally run across the road as we parked in order for him to re-park the car outside our riverside suite.
Our room was modern and elegant with a stunning view over the Thames, home made biscuits and coffee machine all waiting.
Dinner was like a fairy tale as the main room is so pretty with its river views - the menu was extensive and caters for every taste. I was concerned as I consider myself a difficult eater, but the Maitre' D allowed me to go off menu and was not slightly concerned by my questions. A deep filled courgette flower with fresh seasonal vegetables and fresh truffle was amazing as were the husbands snails !. Mains consisted of milk fed lamb - simply amazing and quail stuffed inside pigeon. Dessert; A rose macron with lycee parfait was a feast for the eyes and the tastebuds. A discering post dinner sommelier was gracious enough to let me choose a brandy before discretly telling me it was £495 a glass (phew). An absolute delight.

Room Tip: A room with a view is always the best - but I suspect all rooms in the cottages are pretty spectacul...

The rooms are very pleasant and each has a uniqueness in the style and layout; but nobody goes to the Waterside in for anything other than the food. And here it excels, managing to combine divine French Cuisine with the sort of personal attention and charm that comes with experience. It is easy to see how the 3 Michelin stars were achieved and how they have been retained for 25 years, but more of that later.
The room, we were in the Boat House, was rather eccentric with the bed seeing rather squeezed in while the shower could have hosted a small party. Having said that it made the most of the space in the quite old building that houses the Waterside Inn. Tea and coffee making facilities were provided in shared guests kitchen together with wine and spirits, an honesty book. trays to carry back to the rooms and probably the best shortbread biscuits I have ever tasted. It was only the thought of the evening meal that stopped me from consuming the whole bowl.
We decided that we would have the tasting menu given that this was a special treat. Together with the matching wine selection this was about £250 per head for seven course of food and five different wines, a couple of which were topped up. From start to finish it was a delight, flaked crab on an orange jelly and raspberry souffle with rhubarb compote were typical of the sort of combination of flavours, textures and smalls that made this probably the best meal I have ever eaten.
We had arrived early and were able to take afternoon tea by the river on a sunny, if not particularly warm April afternoon. Then towards the end of the evening meal Diego Masciaga, the wonderful master of ceremonies at the Waterside, came round the tables talking to all the customers, taking time to make sure our experience was of a standard the Waterside could be proud of. He was followed slightly later by Alain Roux himself who also took time, not just to talk to the customers but to listen. Both seemed genuinely interested in our views of the food, the service and how it ranked against other places we had eaten. It was probably the best, with only Michel Roux's Le Gavroche and Restaurant OLIVO at the Steigenberger Graf Zeppelin in Stuttgart coming close.
The attention to detail and excellent service was obvious through the whole experience. Throughout the stay the staff were friendly but discreet, always making sure that we were well catered for without being intrusive. Always saying hello and making sure we had everything we needed but without being pushy in any way. This is definitely an art and we left the following morning after a very good continental breakfast feeling special and talking about how much we had enjoyed the evening and how it was value for money.

Room Tip: Remember that you are there for the food and given a choice should spend more on that than on the ro...

Superb from the moment we stepped out of the car to the time we left. Beautiful rooms, attentive service, fantastic food. It was truly an holistic experience, far more than just having dinner with a friend and staying for the night. An experience I would be happy to repeat!

I went for my birthday with my husband .. It was an absolutely memorable dinner.. The food is divine ...I had Devon crab for starter and poached sole for the main and my husband had lobster soufflé for starter and lobster with saffron and coconut for main course.. It was simply cooked to perfection ... , the staff are ever so friendly..only one criticism .. I would have liked to spend more time in the main dining room but after an hour and a half I was asked if we would like to be moved to the lounge area for coffee , in hindsight I feel this was done as another customer was waiting... Inspite of that I will certainly go back again..

Four of us stayed at the beautiful Waterside Inn last summer and we all hold it in memory as one of the best evening meals we have had. The rooms are well appointed and each one had its own individual style. The real star is the restaurant. Diego the restaurant manager set the tone for the evening. He was so welcoming and he truly adds to the experience. We were lucky enough to have picked a beautiful evening, weather wise, and they reserved us a table by the terrace overlooking the river. The food was delicious, but the setting and the service is what elevates this restaurant to world class status. Alain came to see us after dinner and we had a tour of the kitchen. He was a true gent, very humble considering his achievements. I just wish I lived closer!

We had stayed and dined here 5 years ago and it was always our ambition, indeed our intention, to return one day. The opportunity arose and we grabbed it eagerly with both hands and I am so pleased we did.
We stayed in one of their converted cottages on the doorstep of the Inn. The doorman taking care of car parking and we were escorted to our beautiful room overlooking the River Thames. Needless to say the room was spotlessly clean and had his and hers bathrooms, very very comfortable for the 2 night stay. But the real reason for the 200+ mile pilgrimage to pretty Bray was for the food. Oh the food....lobsters in white port wine, pigeon breast stuffed with quail breast, rabbit with chestnuts, poached sole, sublime rhubarb and chocolate soufflés...all beautifully cooked, presented and served with a panache you would associate with a three Michelin star establishment. Two wonderful dinners to remember and remember them we will for a very long time.
A delicious French continental breakfast was served in our room which we consumed whilst watching early morning rowers doing their stuff on the Thames, a great start to any day.
Expensive? You bet it was, was it worth it? You bet it was! A simply wonderful stay at a serious foodie destination. Our thanks go to every member of staff who helped make our stay so very good especially, of course, to the genius that is Alain Roux and his brigade who produced such exquisite dishes. A mention as well for the unique face of the Waterside, Diego, a charming and ever smiling man who looked after us with his normal care and attention.
You may check out of the Waterside Inn, but I promise you you will never leave it.

from the time we walked through the door to the time we walked back out it was an amazing experience. The staff were wonderful, gliding around you hardly knew they were taking or filling from you table.
The food was a pure taste bud treat... everything melted in your mouth...
Andd to top it off Alain Roux came round to check everyone enjoyed the experience too.
The whole experience was fantastic.
