I have eaten here on different occasions with groups of friends and as a couple. The food is consistently excellent. The staff are very friendly and obliging. Lovely décor. Lovely wine. Highly recommended for a great night out.

“Very disappointed”
Reviewed December 14, 2013 via mobile

I wasn't sure what to expect based on mixed reviews. was very disappointed. limited menu and drinks options. poor quality food. I had lamb sweet peppers and rice. it wasn't served as I had expected I.e. how they do it in the med....a piece of lamb, whole roasted tasty sweet peppers and rice on the side. instead it was a ceramic bowl with mushy rice in the bottom and dry/overcooked? /microwaved shredded lamb on the top. Infact I had to question if it was actually lamb or pulled pork. it looked terrible and tasted worse. fellow diners had rolled salmon which was the only good meal served, mixed grill where the only tasty item was the Turkish sausage, and (not!) Barnsley chop-this was just a large pork chop not a proper Barnsley chop. accompanying veggies and potatoes were under cooked. bottles of beer were £4 and only fosters and JS Smooth on tap. wine £14 a bottle n Sangria £12 a jug.
We like to try Barnsley establishments to support and keep local people and businesses in work but this restaurant will only be around for as long as the previous tenant unless they seriously improve things.
sorry guys, it may have been an 'off' night for you but 4 of us won't be returning.

“Very acceptable. Great location e.g. for Civic Theatre”
Reviewed November 20, 2013

Not a fantastic cheffy or gourmet-memorable experience but nonetheless a completely acceptable scoff. Everything cooked well. Good quality ingredients. Decent quantity e.g. of gambas / prawns in starter: nothing measly about portions. I enjoyed a good Barnsley chop and my fellow-diner thought the salmon / white fish 'roll' (sorry for the poor description) was just what she wanted. Accompanying veg tasted freshly cooked, even if probably pre-cooked and cooled prior to re-heating in the normal restaurant way. Very handy venue for the Civic. We will definitely re-visit. Not a cosy and intimate restaurant room but the service was friendly and efficient.
