“Family Weekend”
Reviewed February 4, 2014

A good place to stay while attending \ family wedding in the Stockport area .
The staff were very helpful at all times . The Dinning Room is set in a lovely large Conservatroy attached to the old Vicarage building

I stayed at Stockport Central Premier Inn on an extremely wet and windy Friday night. Reception staff were extremely helpful in giving me local directions and I had a most peaceful nights sleep in a warm, clean and comfortable room for £29.00! Why would I stay anywhere else? Its a no brainer!

Booked 2 rooms over the Christmas period for a family of 5. Allocated in the annex. It was cold, worn, unpleasant smell in one of the rooms and some of the facilities did not work, i.e. broken tv in one room and broken hairdryer in the other. No hand towels supplied in one of the rooms. The main problem with the annex is no phones in the rooms to report any of this. There is one phone in the entrance hall and after complaining that we were cold and the heaters could not be turned up, we were told that if we were cold, to contact reception on the phone and they could bring over a spare duvet or plug in heater. This was not acceptable in the middle of night to have to nip down the stairs to the entrance hallway in my nightie!

Beds too firm for our liking, our family of 5 all found them to be uncomfortable and with the cold and the hard beds we did not sleep well on any of the nights, thankfully we spent some nights in other Premier Inns (London Tower Bridge and Liverpool Albert Dock) both siginificantly better but beds still too firm.

We should have challenged under the Good Night Sleep Guarantee but the staff were so kind it didnt feel right to do so.

One member of staff, Jonny, was particularly helpful. They stored our ample luggage while we stayed elsewhere and when, on our return, we were allocated rooms on the upper floor in the annex again, he helped us drag our bags up the stairs (no lifts).

On the surface the rooms seemed adequate but they were very worn compared to the others we stayed in. Plus black stains on the grouting made the bathrooms feel unclean.

Breakfast times were not made clear and are not printed on the menu where you would expect it to be found (look for the print on the card with your key - a tip that would have helped us a lot). Our children had jetlag so it was quite a big deal to wake them up an hour earlier than necessary to discover breakfast started an hour later on that day, then missed breakfast altogether when we learned that breakfast finished an hour earlier the next day.

When we did have breakfast it was delicious and again the staff were fantastic.

We booked most of the rooms on the £29 per night rate, had we paid full whack the disappointment would have been much more.

We may need to stay again for convenience as it is the only hotel in central Stockport, but given the choice would opt to stay elsewhere.

Room Tip: Avoid the annex if possible.

We stayed in room 35 for 2 nights over the Christmas break, which was in a separate building to the main hotel. The room was a really good size, larger than any Premier Inn I've stayed at before and the bed was huge and comfortable however the cleanliness was not up to scratch. The top of the headboard was caked in dust and there was dust in various parts of the room, it had an air of not having been cleaned or used for some time and the whole of this section of the hotel is due for a lick of paint and the bathrooms tidying up. The guests we were staying with had to change their room (41 or 42 I think) as the previous occupant had impregnated the carpets with a foul stench of bad feet - so make sure you avoid this room! We booked online including breakfast, but when we heard from other guests due to stay at the same hotel that there was no hot breakfast on Christmas Day morning I contacted the hotel to check. They never bothered to contact me to let me know that the breakfast I had paid for wouldn't be available, nor did they respond to my email querying this. Pretty diabolical considering they didn't have a problem taking payment for this when I booked and if it wasn't for other guests letting me know I wouldn't have known. Overall a good stay though and good location for Stockport town centre and the above points wouldn't put me off staying again.

Stockport Central was so much better than any of the London Premier Inns that we have stayed at. From the moment we arrived, tired and stressed from the 5 hour journey from Southampton, we were made to feel most welcome. The receptionist was very friendly and she helped us with directions to get to the venue for our friend's Birthday party. The restaurant - The Old Rectory - had an outstanding menu and wonderful service. We highly recommend the breakfast - excellent value for money.
All in all, we will be using this particular hotel again.

This hotel needs a serious upgrade. Rooms are quite dated, the bedroom isn't too bad but the bathroom has seen better days. Grouting the tiles black does not mean you don't have to clean the THICK mould off!!!
Stayed 3 nights over a long weekend, cleaner seemed to forget to clean the room after the first night!!! However got a refund for that night under their 'Goodnight Sleep Guarantee'
Our room was cold and the only heater was a small wall mounted on that had a control panel on the wall that you had to set yourself, however after a few hours it would reset itself and you would have a freezing room first thing in the morning. Our room was in the annex of the hotel facing the main road so was awoken all 3 nights by Police sirens going past.
The restaurant that is next door to the hotel does very good food, however they do seem understaffed, as you have to order your food at the bar, unless your in a big party, then the waitress takes your order!
All staff are friendly and welcoming but the hotel has seen better days.
