“Absolutely electric!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 6, 2013

I booked my fiancés 25th birthday here and was sceptical with it being a pub.
However, the staff were so helpful! They gave us the function room for free and even created a personal playlist to play over the speaker system. All the guests were buzzing. They didn't want the night to end.
And my fiancé was over the moon that the staff had met all his personal requirements.
I even had the manager helping me to blue up balloons at one point.

Absolutely fantastic pub.
Fantastic staff.
Fantastic atmosphere.

Highly recommend

“A pub 'on the up'”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 13, 2013 via mobile

From the outside, the Jolly Sailor is rather unpromising; an average ‘locals’ boozer with a few A-boards outside. However when you go in, you quickly realise that this is a friendly pub with three or four decent real ales on offer.

I’ve been in this pub on a few occasions now and there’s no doubt this place has improved immeasurably. When I first went in a couple of years ago, they only had a couple of poorly-kept real ales. However, they’ve got a wider range available now and the staff are looking after the beer properly.

While watching the football yesterday on one of the pub’s televisions, I alternated between Timothy Taylor’s landlord and Golden pippin, which the Skipton-based Copper Dragon Brewery describe as “A light refreshing blonde ale brewed using a new variety of hop, creating a citrus fruit flavour.”

Connoisseurs of real ale will be very familiar with Landlord which has become quite ubiquitous. The Taylor family opened their first brewery in 1858 and are still producing high quality ales from their Knowle Spring brewery in West Yorkshire.

They also had Bombardier ale on which I didn’t try.

Turning to the food, we had no complaints in that regard either. If my memory serves me correctly, the menu says it’s all home-made. Certainly my meal of soup as a starter and steak and kidney pie with chips and vegetables was both tasty and filling. The soup was quite rich and thick. It contained a variety of vegetables.

The steak and kidney pie came in a dish with a crust on top. The meat was good quality for a pie and had a hint of pepper.

My friend had chicken kievs which he thoroughly enjoyed. They smelt quite garlicky and I was sorry I didn’t go for that option myself.

As for the staff, they were very helpful. They clear the tables regularly and the service more generally is efficient and friendly.

The atmosphere was relaxed and it didn’t feel too much like a ‘locals’ pub.

Overall, this pub is definitely worth a visit. Both the ale and the food are of a high standard and represent good value for money.
