We have visited Avanti twice now. Our most recent visit was ahead of a showing at the local Savoy Cinema.

The restaurant is set on a corner in Heaton Moor with a modern, simple interior suitable both for groups and for couples. We visited on a quiet Sunday evening but a Friday or Saturday night with live music would make it an attraction. The service was friendly and speedy, which is just what you want when working to a time limit. The prices were also reasonable at around £9 per pasta dish and £8 per pizza dish.

We had a cheese and a tomato garlic bread to for starters, with chilli added to the tomato version at our request.

For main we had a goats cheese 'Rustica' pizza, asking for chicken as an extra topping. We also ordered the 'Tortellini Fantasia' which involved ricotta and spinach tortellini with a bolognese, smoked ham and cream sauce.

Each dish was delicious, although we did seem to slowly feel we were being soaked in garlic! This might just be the more authentically Italian style on offer at Avanti, say in comparison to chain Italian restaurants such as Gusto, or it might just be too much garlic!

Anyway, needless to say we weren't the best people to sit next to at the Savoy!

All in all a great local restaurant and one we'd recommend to others on a similar night out.

We ate here last Saturday night, and when we walked in there was a very noisy children's party which was just finishing. At first we were deciding whether to stay or not, and to be fair I'm glad we did. The meatballs for starters were good, and whilst I had basic steak and chips, it was very satisfying. In fairness to the staff, there were 2 children who were squealing in there, and the waitress approached the family in a very mannerly way, and asked them to reduce the noise, much to my satisfaction, and the satisfaction of everyone else. Food was good, service was good and prompt, an all round good meal.

I really thought places like this didn't exist any more. It is just joyless. There is no passion about it at all. The room is pleasant enough but characterless. The menu is totally uninspiring. There was no Specials Board. Why? There is no regard to where the ingredients are sourced. This place is in a time warp and all the food is cooked with very little finesse or care. The Heaton's deserves better than this travesty of an "Italian" restaurant. The food we had was undercooked and under seasoned. We have been to this place three times since it opened, each time hoping it might get better. It hasn't. Never again.

It was a birthday celebration and we had a table for seven. We were given a menu to look at, then the waitress dictated the set menu of the day (which wasn't written on the main menu) but she didn't tell us the price of this and we didn't like to ask in front of our guests, so we all ended up choosing from the printed menu.

The food was brilliant and very filling! Typical Italian dishes like stuffed pancakes, cannelloni, penne with tomato sauce, chicken and beef dishes and a vegetarian option. We all chose a different starter and main dish, and I can honestly say that the food was beautifully presented, piping hot and very, very satisfying.

We were all too full to order dessert, but we had brought with us a cake for our birthday girl and the restaurant staff not only brought it in on a serving dish with a knife and plates, but also led the singing of "Happy Birthday"! Everyone in the restaurant joined in and it was great!

The prices were reasonable, not cheap at all but not too dear for what was a special occasion. The atmosphere was lovely (if a little noisy) and the staff were attentive. My family will certainly consider this restaurant again next time we have a birthday or special event to celebrate.
