“this early bird is very special.”
Reviewed May 9, 2013

Wednesday night 8.5.13 arrived at 6.50pm and the place was packed. It appears everyone was there for the early bird special which is £7.90 for 3 courses ( fried rice is £.50p extra and noodles £1.00 extra).Tiger bottled beer was £3.00.Lots of choices on this menu ,I had hot and sour vegetarian soup, tempura mixed vegetables and bean-curd tofu in black bean sauce with fried rice. Total bill was £11.40 and I could not fault a thing.Lovely chinese waitress with a good sense of humour ( she wrote the order down in mandarin and I told her she had made a mistake with a word, wow she said your mandarin is better than mine.....as if!!).This is a great place to enjoy good food at daft prices.

“VERY NICE”
Reviewed May 4, 2013

FOOD- We had the early bird 3 course special & couldn't fault it. Soup & starters were sufficient & the mains were good size portions. All tasty & freshly cooked.
SERVICE- it was busy, & I have to say it was abit slow between courses.
ATMOSPHERE- full of early diners, it was fine.
TOILETS- v clean.
OVERALL- A pleasant meal, not to heavy on the stomach, or the wallet. Defo b going back..

“Just average, below expectations.”
Reviewed May 3, 2013 via mobile

Lots of friends have eaten here and said how lovely it was so I had high hopes for Tao's. We had a table for booked for 8pm, but our table was not ready when we arrived. By quarter past the diners (who'd been in for the early bird session) were showing no signs of moving on and we had to suggest to the staff they jolly them along a bit as they'd finished their meal some time ago! Not a great start. We did get a round of drinks on the house but there is nowhere to sit and wait whilst you wait for a table.
When we eventually sat down half an hour later it took a while for our orders to be taken. The menu is extensive and there aren't descriptions of what each dish is, but our waitress was knowledgable and happy to help us choose.
Took quite a long time for our dim sum platter to arrive - it was fine, nothing amazing and certainly not generous. The ribs were very dry.
Main courses were much better (when they eventually came) and my beef satay was very tasty, but not served sizzling as ordered. They also don't use food warmers, so don't expect it to stay hot long.
The decor is good and there's a nice, chatty ambience about the place. It was busy most of the evening. Staff were not overly attentive, which when busy you can forgive slightly but it seemed one young lass was doing all the work.
I'd probably give it another go to see if Tao's can redeem itself but won't rush back. We know a much better take away Chinese with superb, fresh food and will likely stick with that unless we want a restaurant.

“Best Chinese restaurant in north Manchester”
Reviewed April 27, 2013

Tucked away off the main road, excellent food, great service, not too expensive. Recommended.

I go at least once a month, Steve is the owner and sometimes.does the cooking, he takes time out to talk to customers and recommend dishes.

It's no huge downstairs but is normally packed, even during the week. Try it.
