The Old Bill is a classy joint at the best of times - quirky, exciting food and lovely atmosphere. The owner, Paolo, has just moved it up a gear with the triumphant launch of a brand new jazz bar in the cellar underneath the restaurant.
'Letsby Avenue' (the name a cheeky nod to the continuing police tie-in from their former location next to the old station) has been kitted out beautifully in similar fashion to the restaurant, but with a little more contemporary restraint, expertly mood lit to create a very welcoming ambience.
As it's billed as a jazz bar, Paolo plans to make live music a constant feature and has a healthy list of talent lined up for the coming months.
Letsby Avenue solves a big problem - where to go in Oldham with a bit of class after your plate is cleared! Oldham is a bit of a desert for the more discerning wine bar crowd who are normally tempted to head into Manchester rather than take their chances with the bargain boozers along Yorkshire Street. Letsby Avenue, just like The Old Bill upstairs, brings that big city quality to Oldham and is worth a visit even if you haven't dined on site.
The only downside I could see is that it becomes a magnet for so many that we may struggle to fit through the door in a few weeks! Molto buono Paolo!
