Description: The restaurant was established in 1995 when Marco Senior and his son Paolo decided to create an authentic, family run family feel restaurant. The restaurant has built up a reputation as the perfect place for that intimate meal, or social and family occasion in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere situated in the heart of Oldham. This has now been developed further by moving its premises to Greaves st where it now not only boasts THE White Rooms funtion suit but also a custom built music venue in its basement called Letsby Avenue...From srength to strength we grow trying our best to merge a traditional family bistro with a multy facilitated building. we hope you visit and give us your opinion soon...paolo

“The Old Bill's brand new jazz bar 'Letsby Avenue' hits all the right notes!”
Reviewed November 25, 2012 via mobile

The Old Bill is a classy joint at the best of times - quirky, exciting food and lovely atmosphere. The owner, Paolo, has just moved it up a gear with the triumphant launch of a brand new jazz bar in the cellar underneath the restaurant.

'Letsby Avenue' (the name a cheeky nod to the continuing police tie-in from their former location next to the old station) has been kitted out beautifully in similar fashion to the restaurant, but with a little more contemporary restraint, expertly mood lit to create a very welcoming ambience.

As it's billed as a jazz bar, Paolo plans to make live music a constant feature and has a healthy list of talent lined up for the coming months.

Letsby Avenue solves a big problem - where to go in Oldham with a bit of class after your plate is cleared! Oldham is a bit of a desert for the more discerning wine bar crowd who are normally tempted to head into Manchester rather than take their chances with the bargain boozers along Yorkshire Street. Letsby Avenue, just like The Old Bill upstairs, brings that big city quality to Oldham and is worth a visit even if you haven't dined on site.

The only downside I could see is that it becomes a magnet for so many that we may struggle to fit through the door in a few weeks! Molto buono Paolo!

“Italian at its best”
Reviewed November 10, 2012

My wife and I visited "The Old Bill" on Greaves Street, Oldham, Lancs on Friday evening 9th September. This is a family run restaurant.
We were met by a friendly barman and then Paolo, the owner, we were shown to a large sofa where we had drinks and checked out the menu. We both ordered "Sexy Garlic Mushrooms" to start then my wife ordered Lasagne and I ordered "Paolo's Spicy Balls" (you can choose how spicy you want them).
To accompany this we ordered a bottle of the House Wine at £10, very fruity and enjoyable.
Eventually we were shown to our table and the service was brilliant, we were not rushed in any way, mind you the place was full. The atmosphere is wonderful, with background music, extremely friendly and helpful staff, Paolo singing to himself and even the chef, Lisa (Paolo's sister), came out chatting and serving. (Don't worry there is more than one chef).
The food - excellent, I have visited a number of Italian Restaurants and this one rates with the best. One word of warning, take a good appetite with you, the portions are large and hot. I would also recommend that you book as it is very popular. The Old Bill has a web site if you need more information. They also cater for "Pre Theatre Dining".
There is a medium size function room upstairs and Paolo is opening a new Lounge Bar downstairs towards the end of November 2012.

“A great pre-theatre performance!”
Reviewed November 4, 2012

I know reviews often say a "true gem" but this is. If you want great food at a value for money price mixed unique service with character this certainly hits the spot. Don't expect pages and pages of a menu, their menu says to you with out saying it "this is what we do and we do it very well" . Went for early bird menu which did not cut any corners like other 'early bird menus' and fantastic value for money. The food certainly delivers, traditional favourites with a twist, even down to the crisps on arrival made on the premises by 'dad' have a wonderfull mix of ingredients. The service is overflowing with warmth and is certainly a very family affair. They have pride in what they do and so they should have as they certainly deliver a truly wonderfull experience.
