Owner description: Located in Bury, just 30 minutes from Manchester City Centre, is the award-winning East Lancashire Railway. A heritage railway that runs steam and diesel train services through the beautiful Pennine Lancashire scenery. There are plenty of things to see and do and stations are well equipped for group visits with cafes, pubs, gift shops and a dedicated Transport Museum, housing vintage vehicles, transport memorabilia and interactive exhibits. Guided tours and talks are also available. The railway also has some fantastic events scheduled throughout the year from guided Rail Ale Trail tours of some of the excellent local drinking spots to the nostalgia of their award winning 1940's weekend. Looking for something a little different? Why not indulge in a luxury steam train hauled dining experience on board Orient Express style carriages, learn to drive a train or get snap happy with a Photography Course?

We stayed at Burrs country park from where you can board the train .
We did the round trip stopping off at Ramsbottom along the way.
The train and station staff are very helpful and friendly.
It's a wonderful day out especially if it's steam Well worth a visit.

If you like trains then this is definitely for you.
Suitable for all ages, and a fun day out.
The trains are great, they don't go a long way, but they were fab.

We were very well looked after by the dining car staff even to the point of putting our coats up on the rack. The food was excellent, hot and tasty and served very efficiently by the young waiting staff. We were very pleased by the ease of travel only a short walk from Bury Station via an excellent link vis metrolink from Manchester. The scenery is superb, all in all a lovely day.

I took my granddaughter for an afternoon trip on the train from Rawtenstall to Bury and back. We both really enjoyed the journey and it was improved by the people we shared the carriage with, All were very knowledgeable about the trains and the route.

Had lunch at the Bury cafe and that was very good. Plenty of choice and all served by a very friendly lady.

We will be back to have another afternoon on the train next year
