my wife and our friend were visiting the area and called in the anchor for a drink, when we saw the food being served it looked so good that we had to try some! we were certainly not disappointed we had the melted brie, bacon and tomato baguette it was delicious, the beer was on top form I sampled a half of timothy taylor landlord and a halt of tribute both were as good as I have tasted anywhere!! the barmaid was very friendly and kept a keen eye on the patrolling traffic warden for us as we had parked directely outside which again was a bonus. excellent service and welcome will certainly call in again when in the area!!.

Through a small black door and the other side of a leaded window on Upton upon Severn's high street, a very warm welcome awaits at Ye Olde Anchor, a good, honest traditional pub.

Many things strike you as you walk into the small and intimate bar area. Firstly you'll notice the character and atmosphere of a charming, quirky, historic building which retains most of its original features. Thankfully it hasn't succumbed to the pretentiousness of many fashionable pubs. You'll also notice, at this time of year, the incredible warmth (but not unbearable heat) generated by the small log fire that seems to burn and smoulder without smoke. Once at the bar a warm welcome awaits from whoever is serving. If you're lucky enough to be served by her (and there's no mistaking who she is) you'll meet Lisa, who has a warm, bubbly, infectious personality with a smile that brightens up the pub. She, like all the staff, is very helpful and incredibly efficient. There is a small selection of well kept real ales among the other beverages; and a bar menu with an appetising but not overwhelming selection to chose from.

The food is wholesome, tasty, well presented, arrives in good time and the portions generous. It makes for good value pub food which is enjoyable. To avoid any misunderstanding for potential visitors, a gastro pub this isn't and it doesn't claim to be. It is a good local pub with enjoyable, tasty, good value food.

Service here is excellent. Whenever I've been here I have noticed that new guests are greeted with the same attention and warmth as the locals. Refreshing and reassuring to say the least, and I would add that the service is attentive without being intrusive.

Ye Olde Anchor is a good honest pub, in fact a great little pub. I've taken friends and family on many occasions to this pub and now count it as one of my favourite "locals". Alone, with a friend, the family, or a group, young or old; there is always a warm welcome and someone to strike up a conversation with over a drink.
