“One night stay for a business trip”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 28, 2013

Stayed for one night in August 2013 for business. Porter/desk attendant was ready and waiting, gave key straight away, advised on parking, etc. Comfortable lounge area and restaurant. Bar a bit disappointing and quite expensive. Interior decor a bit dated and room very much had the 1980s feel, with lots of rosy-red wood and patterned curtains/bedspread. Middle of summer, so room was absolutely baking, couldn't get it to cool, but there was a fan available, which we used. Did not eat at the hotel due to the rather pricey menu, though there are other good pubs nearby. Breakfast next morning was good, you could order what you want, server was very attentive and helpful.

We arrived in Upton ,looking for a meal .The hotel restaurant was fully booked but the staff squeezed us into the bar , where we were offered the full menu . The food and service was brilliant , my husband and I opted for the confit duck...delicious. Our Aunt had a scallop starter as a main, which the kitchen topped up to a larger dish , with no problem or increased charge . The atmosphere was lively and bright. Service was attentive without being overbearing. My husband and Uncle say the beer is also good, and just to check their findings , tried several !

We went here last night as it was my husbands birthday and we'd just finally completed on our new home! The food and service were outstanding! Can't fault it. The atmosphere is cosy and the staff are attentive without being imposing. Can highly recommend all their fish dishes and the duck and belly pork were also beautiful not forgetting the creme brûlée which is to die for!
We spent £100 for 3 courses each, a bottle of sparking wine and a very good Chablis.
Excellent value and definitely worth it for special occasions. We have also eaten from the blackboard menu before too which is fab food but for a special night, their ala carte menu was outstanding.

Stayed here overnight last weekend and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The staff were friendly, the room was comfortable and well appointed and the following mornings breakfast was also of a very good standing. It really is in a great location as all the bars and restaurants are accessible from the hotel.

We stayed here for two nights for the Upton Blues Festival. The Hotel is in a very good location right in the town centre. It's an olde worlde Hotel which is kept immaculate. The room is small but adequate but as a previous reviewer also commented it was very hot and uncomfortable. We also had to make three requests to obtain a second set of towels which took overnight to rectify. Breakfast is served in the restaurant and is very good. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. The Festival was brilliant.

Things probably weren't helped by staying here on one of the hottest days in the year, but to be showed into a room that was the temperature of a blast furnace and seeing that the term double room meant that it was just about possible to get a double bed in the room without space to get around the bed. It was a very very cramped room, tatty and in need of maintenance. I waited 3 times at the reception desk for more than 10 minutes with no one around. I stay at many hotels throughout the year and this will be on my list of "to avoid".
