Visited a number of times now and never been disappointed. The staff are attentive, nice lounge in which to met first befoe being shown to your table. They have introduced an all you can eat buffet mid-week, although you order from a limited menu not help yourself which is really good value.

We've been coming here pretty much every week since Henry Lau converted the derelict Crown Pub in 2002 into the sister restaurant of the excellent Emperors in Leamington Spa (where the menu, wine list and service are identical). For some reason I've never written a review for this place but having had another excellent meal at the Red Chamber on Saturday I've decided to put this right.

The main menu (see note below) is extensive without being overwhelming though these days we tend to pick from a selection of tried and trusted favourites. Mrs C usually has the vegetable soup and I opt for either the very tasty spring rolls or Beef Satay on Skewers. Mains are usually Chicken with Blackbean sauce and a Fillet Steak dish or occasionally Mongolian Lamb Slices which is delicious but with quite strong flavours.

The chef will usually cook you something that isn't on the menu if he can and this time I asked for something that appeared on the specials menu about a year ago - "Fillet Steak with Onions and Mushrooms in Red Wine" which was no problem for the kitchen. It was excellent.

The wine list here is IMHO well balanced and outstanding value ranging from inexpensive house wine through to an acceptable Margaux and a very good Montrachet, with nothing over £30 a bottle. The Louis Jadot Fleurie is as good as it gets at £19 (our usual choice). There's a good selection of beers and wine by the glass too.

The staff work very hard and the service is efficient and friendly, though occasionally they do get some big noisy parties in, especially at this time of year which can be a bit distracting. They're open at luchtimes too so we do that sometimes as an alternative to evenings when they're very busy.

Bewilderingly, especially for the uninitiated, they do three different menus. The main a la carte menu is available for all sittings (Monday - Saturday). They have a scaled-down lunchtime menu Monday to Saturday with what appear to be 2/3 or 3/4 size dishes from the main menu which are excellent value which you can mix-and-match with the main a la carte.

On top of these they do an all-you-can-eat buffet (the dishes are cooked to order) which you can't mix with the other two menus. The choice is okay if a little restricted and the cost of £8.50 for lunch is pretty good. The cost goes up to £16.50 (I think) in the evenings and they don't do it on Friday or Saturday evenings. I wasn't quite so impressed with the quality of the buffet menu choices on the few occasions we've tried it, though it's clearly a popular option especially for bigger parties.

Not all the reviews here are as positive as this one and it's not everybody's favourite. It does it for us though. There are also one or two people who have had a less than good experience which is a real shame because we've never had a bad meal or poor service here.

We go to a lot of Chinese Restaurants across the Midlands (Mrs C says too many) and although we've been to some very good ones, this remains a firm favourite.

Best prawn toast ever tasted. Set menus excellent. Good selection of beers and wines. Maitre D a bit frosty but waitresses lovely. Good area for pre meal drinks.

Visited with my wife and three grandchildren for birthday celebration.Ordered the set meal (£18.50 per person)for four.
The starters were all extremely greasy and tasteless. The main courses were not as good as when we visited about a year ago.It was a mistake to order the deserts( toffee apple/banana) since we couldnot eat them (too greasy again).
All in all a very disappointing meal and very little better than your average chinese takeaway at twice the price.Won't be going there again.Pity ,because in the past the food was good and reasonably priced.

We have used this restaurant for a number of years. The prices do not appear to have risen by any great amount but the quality of the food has declined. It would appear that things are presented n line with a budget. The steak was not good quality and even the spare ribs were below par. They used to make an effort when presenting their food but even this now appears second rate.
We shall go to Chinatown in Birmingham next time.
