“Outstanding position, tasty Sunday Lunch with friendly service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 25, 2011

This place is just quite idyllic. Right by the canal so sat and watched the 'traffic' whilst having a splendid Sunday Lunch. Pork was so succulent and those that had the beef left plates 'bare'. Ample parking so stayed and walked the tow path and then finished next doot at the Old Smithy for an ice cream. Very good food (veg not overcooked), friendly service - quick too and all at a reasonable price (£7.95 for one course) - will definately go there again.

“All that they claim”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 19, 2011

Go to the website and then believe what you have read, because this pub is all that they say it is. Have only visited in the day and eaten outside, in the summer. I don't know about the other dining options.
You can watch barges going into the lock as you eat and walk along the canal bank before or after your meal.
Sitting outside you are near the quite busy road so best to sit as far away as possible. I wouldn't let that put me off, though.

“Great location and atmosphere but food let it down.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 15, 2011

We were staying at the campsite almost next door and went in on Friday night for a meal. Great atmosphere, plenty of people and thought it was a good option for food.
Ordered starters, husband had mushroom soup, which was luke warm and a tasted like a bowl of cream with mushrooms liquidised into it. The fishcake was good although heavily deep fried. The main courses were again not hot and my husband's burger was good althought the beef curry was just ok but very thick as if too much thickening agent had been added, the microwave rice also put me off a little. Overall an average meal for a reasonable price until later that night when we were both quite ill ! Great for a drink and to watch the barges but be wary on ordering food. It may be we were just unlucky!
