Living just down the road we used to use Brockencote a lot. Then it changed hands and they did a great job of the refurbishment, turning the hotel and restaurant much more "boutiquey". We went on a Monday night, only booking at around 5pm and had a very strange experience. We asked for a table at 7.30, we were offered a table at 6.45 for 7.15 or 7.45 for 8.15. We opted early and when we were taken to the restaurant we found ourselves eating alone. Another couple arrived half an hour later and then a table of 8 around 45 minutes after that. What a load of nonsense!!

The food is good. We were given canapes in the lounge with our drinks and they were creative and delicious. We went off the cheaper menu and every course was delicious but this place is now very expensive. At over £40 for 3 courses for the cheap menu and almost £60 for the more extensive menu, you would expect the food to be stunning. It's good but not stunning. We found house wines that were reasonably priced (around £21) but we used to come and drink Sancerre and quality Bordeaux at reasonable prices, not anymore. This place has become somewhere that you only go to as a treat, and although it has always been that kind of establishment to some extent, the introduction of the Garden Menu early week (by the previous owners) made it a quality option from a Sunday to Wednesday. Not anymore, which might explain why it wasn't that busy.

Been here a number of times and sadly despite an attempt to give them another chance I have experienced poor service on every occasion. Abrupt cold staff who are not interested in engaging with their guests. Given the price they charge per head I would have expected staff (and owners to be more attentive) =they appear always rushed, stressed and disinterested.

Food quality however is excellent -a little over priced when you take in the whole customer experience.

Advice - pick a date when they will not be busy.

Me and my mother visited Brockencote hall in January for lunch one Saturday. I have never been here before but previously i have had many reccomendations off friends and family to come so we decided to and i have to say it must of been one of the best decisions i have made in a long time! the pictures of Brockencote hall really don't do it justice, the dining room is just so elegant it's untrue the purple colors compliment each other so well, we were bought into the bar and ordered drinks while we were given time to look at the menu and choose our starter and main course, after this we were led into the amazing dining room and were seated opposite some lovely big french doors and the view was superb. We were then given the appetizer which was chicken liver pate with poached fig this was not for me just really because i don't like chicken liver pate but not a bad point. the starter was smoked salmon with beetroot puree horseradish cream and beetroot strands, this must of been one of the most freshest dishes i have ever had this flavor was so light. After this our main was slow cooked beef with mixed vegetables, the beef simply just fell apart it was so tender and the fondant potatoes and veg were superb, next dessert was muscovoda parfait with red wine poached pair and a barley ice cream, all i can say i wow that poached pair was so rich and fruity it was unbelievable it was a truly memorable experience. Finally we had coffee and peti fours served on slate truly wonderful way to finish an unforgettable meal, the setting and service really was second to non and we both believe it deserves a Michelin star and i certainly will be back again possibly to try there afternoon tea.

A big thanks to all the staff at the Brockencote Hall Hotel, particularly the head chef for making our family pre-Christmas get-together a wonderful and unforgettable occasion. The hall looks fantastic since it was refurbished during the summer and the staff were so proffessional and welcoming. The food was delicious and presented as it should be. It makes all the distance. My family really enjoyed their day at Brockencote Hall.
