“Bah humbug”
Reviewed December 29, 2012

We visited the Kings Arms in the week before Christmas, no fire, no mulled wine , no Christmas cheer. I asked about lighting the fire a young girl said it should be lit but she was not allowed to do it.

The food for the buffet event was below standered, hand carved ham was nice in the sandwiches, but some giant chunks, some wafer thin, and slathered in mustard on all of them! there was soggy tuna sarndwiches, and something I failed to recognise. The mini quiches where nice, but the cake platter looked like it had come straight out of iceland supermarket. And no crunchy veg/fruit/greenery! (we ended up heading to the bar to get crisps for our children as there was little they would happily eat)
And yes, the toilets, well I remember first going into this place about 20 years ago. The toilets are still the same, the carpet the same, even the loo brush looks the same!
The bar area is nicely redecorated, but not ideal for kids. When I've been in for lunch the food has always been a good standered. This time tho, they missed the mark by a long shot.

“Sunday Lunch Family Meal.”
Reviewed October 22, 2012

The hotel is tired and of fairly low level decorative order. The toilets are in poor condition and the hotel could do with a upgrade. The menu choice for Sunday Lunch was very good indeed with plenty of choice, Roast Lamb, Roast Beef, Roast Pork was on offer with a three course lunch available for £10.95 which is a very good deal. The choice of starters were Prawn Cocktail, Soup, Pate which was all very good and very well presented. The service was quick and efficient. The main courses were received in good time but there was a major delay in getting the vegetables out which meant sadly that the plates had gone cold by the time they were brought out. This is a shame as the service from the waitresses was very good and pleasant, there was only one waitress bringing the food out which meant that there was a huge delay. This was disappointing as the food itself was good. Nice choice of vegetables and the meat was OK. The sweets and pudding were again plentiful in choice, really well presented and very good and tasty, massive cheese board and the Coffee cheesecake was very nice. This was almost a very good meal but the delivery of the vegetables was very slow and unforgivable .Extremely good value for money and the presentation was very good. So nearly a great family meal but was let down by the décor and atmosphere as it was quiet and not very homely .
