The hotel was the best English Inn we have stayed at...and we have stayed at some very good ones. The staff were brilliant and could not have been more welcoming. The food was superb, but nothing new there, and the rooms were very comfortable. Easy parking and a lovely location. Looking forward to going back.

Room Tip: Room 31 was up a number of short flights of steps so would not be recommended for anyone with walking difficulties. Room was good.

Lovely room at front of hotel. New secondary glazing cuts out noise. Staff as lovely and welcoming as last time. Hotel is in ideal place for Avebury Manor, Stone Circle and Wiltshire villages.Hotel is in the middle of the High Street in an ideal position. There are lovely walks straight from the door.

Room Tip: Room 2 was on ground floor and handy for early dog walks. It was a wonderfully designed and comfortable room.

We stayed here for a night before heading to Stonehenge. Our room was okay. It was a bit rough around the edges. And while I understand that an old building will smell old (I've stayed in other 300 year old hotels) our room smelled very musty. It smelled like there is a mould issue that's not being addressed. The bathroom has a vinyl floor that appears to be hiding something. The bed was not very comfortable either.

My wife & I have stayed with Old English Inns several times now & the Castle & Ball is typical of their offering & good standards. The building has character & is well located on the high street [with hotel parking being a benefit!]. We stayed for 3 nights & our room was clean & comfortable throughout. The staff were polite & friendly & the food good value for money. Overall, a very pleasant stay & we would certainly visit again.

Room Tip: Even though our first floor room was at the front of the building overlooking the main road the double glazed window ensured that it was not as noisy as we thought it might be [despite road works going on until late in the evening] so happy to recommend these rooms.

It's lovely to hear from guests who have stayed before and liked it enough to return. Thank you for your comments, we hope you still have enough to see in the area to bring you back to stay again.

The Hotel

Everything was perfect from the cleanliness of the room to the fish and chips, the building is a real charm that fit's the " old English inn" name tag perfectly. I would stay here again in a heart beat.

The Food.

In keeping with the rest of the experience the food was fantastic, big portions, well cooked and the best of all the value, £5.95 for a fish and chips that is award winning you can't go wrong. My wife had a steak which was cooked to perfection, it was the first time we have had a steak has came out as requested. So Hat's of the chef's.

The Area

Fantastic town, so much character oozing out of every building, we were lucky enough arrive when the market was in town, which i think is Saturday's. Shopping is brilliant, expensive but very good quality.

The Staff

The best part of our experience, nothing was to much trouble. It's nice to see such a close knit team that work so hard and at the same time treat you like a friend. From having a wonderful conversation in the restaurant about the local town, to then going out to the bar to talk about ale's for half an hour. Everything was perfect, i take my hat of to the manager for having such a wonderful hotel and giving me and my wife one of the best experiences we have had.

Room Tip: Try arrive when the market is on.
