My wife and I spent 3 days at the Lamb as we we visited the lovely town of Marlborough and its environs. Its a good old fashioned pub serving real ale straight from the barrel. The room we had was very good, plenty of room although the ensuite was a squeeze. Service and food both excellent, plenty to choose from on the main menu and a belly buster breakfast beautifully cooked to order. All the staff are friendly and helpful making any stay a relaxing experience.
There's no car park and parking is a bit of a problem. There's street spaces outside and nearby so with a bit of organisation using free parking for 2 hours and free from 6pm to 10am its possible to get away without paying. Otherwise a local Waitrose provides short term parking at a reasonable cost. The Lamb is ideally placed for exploring the town and its high street (the second widest in the UK apparantly) which houses pubs restaurants and shops of all descriptions.

The staff are friendly, the food divine and the beer is gorgeous. What a lovely place this is, especially taking lunch in the courtyard - you feel that you are in the Mediterranean sitting under the vine eating sumptuously prepared and inventive food. Exquisite.

My fiancée is almost vegan and doesn't eat dairy so we had to be careful what we ordered. The young lady at the bar could not ave been more helpful. The food came out quickly it was hot and we received very good service. Can't say fairer than that

The Lamb Inn as it goes is a lovely pub and accommodation facility, with a traditional Englishness about it that fits in with the Marlborough atmosphere. I came down for the weekend, for multiple celebrations with friends and family in the region.

The rooms are pleasant, clean and well equipped and they came and did a service, tidying up our bed and bathroom during our 2 night stay which I hadn't expected but had been a pleasant surprise.

The breakfasts were generous, and the stay in general good value.

What really was the disappointment was, on the Sunday evening, we arrived back about 11:35pm after dropping my Mum off her B&B. There were 5 of us staying in three of the rooms.

One couple in our group had only just checked in earlier that day - as a last minute thing - rushing in to drop their bags off and ran back out again to meet up with the rest of the party (having driven down from Manchester).

We all went upstairs to go to bed and the couple who had checked in earlier that day couldn't find their room. There were no rooms with the corresponding name to their key name. After trying all the doors with names on and walking to other parts of the building (just on the safe side) we were all very confused, we knew the room existed - but where was it?

I went and asked the cleaners who were cleaning the bar if they had a floor map of the property or the contact number for the manager on duty, or the landlord, person of responsibility. They said no, they didn't have anything to do with the property except cleaning the bar after it closes as they were hired by an external agency.

Well how were we to get hold of someone...in case of emergency or need of assistance? Well we obviously weren't meant to disturb anyone past last orders. Eventually I suggested that we try one of the doors that said private on it. I mean worse case scenario is it wouldn't work...but yes it did work and it was the right room...

Now don't get me wrong, I understand this room was new, but why would you leave a sign up that says private, surely you'd take it down - even if you don't have a replacement - because who is normally going to check a private room? Having been in a rush earlier, the couple genuinely hadn't noticed that the room said Private and not the room name and because all the doors look the same on the corridor, it was just surreal.

As we realised we'd finally found the right room (HURRAY!), our other friend emerged from her room to ask the couple was everything ok as her door shut behind her...and no we didn't have a spare key...or the number of the landlord/duty manager/someone of responsibility!

Luckily for us there was a fourth room which didn't appear to have anyone checked in but a key in the door, so the person who'd unfortunately locked themselves out of their room had to stay in this surplus room until someone was on duty in the morning.

I spoke to a lady over breakfast about it and said I was disappointed with the fact that the cleaners had been really unhelpful and we didn't have any details of the person responsbile for the property. Her response had been - "Oh I know, but I suppose they're not English are they? (in reference to the cleaners)"...Erm...that's not really the point, the point is they've been left with insufficient information. In fact, the whole property was lacking information on who to contact in case of an emergency...the only place where it was mentioned was on the emergency plan in the room...and that was referencing a duty manager (WHAT duty manager, no name, no number...)

Grrrrr!!!!

I stayed for a night on a work trip to Marlborough.

It was a Monday night so the pub was quiet - it's a traditional pub that does evening meals with hearty sized portions.

I booked stable room 2 on line - and it was a small but attractive double, comfortable and spotless. (Only complaint is the bed was a bit soft for my personal taste.)

The room looked over the courtyard, which has tables and so I guess it could be noisy at the weekend. But it was absolutely quiet on my Monday night stay.

Breakfast was a generous full English served in the bar area.

I would happily stay again if visiting Marlborough on business.

A recent visit to the Wiltshire town of Marlborough led my wife and myself to the gates of the Lamb Inn, a quaint 17th century coaching Inn close just off the main draw of the High st. Obviously a popular pub in town, we turned up at lunch time and decided take lunch before after after a pleasant reception at the bar. High standard of food here, theme of the menu was local, seasonal produce (not a Chicken Sala Ciabatta and chips in sight ). Obvious care taken here, locally sourced beef, game, seafood, seasonal veg all represented. Bistro standard.

The Room had a rustic feel but came well equipped, large comfortable bed, fresh linen, Television, free wifi, coffee and tea making facilities. Ensuite was functional and clean, above and beyond what I would generally expect from a B&B setting. The breakfast was all you could want from a breakfast.

For people unfamiliar with Marlborough or the area the town is well placed for its proximity to a variety of historical sites and is surrounded by extremely peaceful english countryside. The town itself is obviously quite lively, shops, pubs, restaurants all garnish the high st.

In short, great pub, solid B&B, very friendly establishment and I would challenge anyone to find similar levels of service at their local Travelodge for the price.

We arrived about 17:00 on Saturday evening. Bar area is very old fashioned but staff were friendly, checked in after a few drinks with no problem,. We had 'The Hobday 'room on the first floor. it had a nice four poster bed but the world’s smallest bathroom. It was shoehorned in and had a sliding door right by the toilet that was two steps away from the bed, no privacy. Anyway we changed and went out on the town (no pub food at weekends BTW). We returned about 10:30 and wanted a good night’s sleep, some chance. On-going up to the room we quickly realised that not only were we right over the bar, jukebox and all, but also over the front door that banged every minute! By midnight it had quietened down. Next problem was the nosiest water system ever that banged and gurgled every 5 minutes. Next surprise was about 6am to find pigeons were nesting outside our window and were cooing away! The breakfast was ok but I couldn’t wait to get away. No way was that worth £80 anyway, go an stay at The Castle and Ball (who were full) for a massively better experience.
