“Overall a good experience”
Reviewed January 17, 2013

My wife and I stayed at this B&B for a night while in town for a wedding and overall we had a good experience.

Caroline and Chris are lovely (welcomed us with a pot of tea and few slices of home made cake) and very accommodating (e.g. I like that Caroline has her mobile number online so you can call her, as we needed to).

Caroline was also extremely responsive and helpful on email before we came which I was really grateful for e.g. she sent us the contact info for all the taxi companies in Marlborough, which came in extremely handy.

Our room was compact but nicely done, and clean. We booked late so were in a twin room - the beds were ok - nothing to write home about but did the trick. The B&B location is also great (a stones throw from the centre of town). I would also say it is good value for money.

Our only suggestions:
i) no way to pay electronically which makes it slightly tricky for international guests, but Caroline was willing to take cash
ii) would be good to ave a thermostat in each room so guests can control temperature - we stayed on a cold night and would have been good to be able to turn up the heating (the house in general felt chilly rather than cosy). Perhaps having an extra blanket or two in each room would be helpful.
iii) I confess I was slightly disappointed by the breakfast - it was a beautiful spread but didn't seem to be the best quality ingredients (tesco value?) but perhaps expected for the price. It would be good to also have a bit more flexibility on timing of breakfast so guests can have a lie in :-)

Cannot fault this lovely B&B. Rooms are clean & top notch, and the breakfasts are superb. The location is perfect - close to town but off road so nice & quiet. Caroline & Chris are great hosts & make you feel so welcome. Cannot recommend Orchard Close highly enough. Thanks guys for a great stay.

Stayed for one night with wife and two young children when visiting friends and have to say were made to feel very welcome from the moment we arrived in the afternoon with an offer of drinks and being showed to our rooms to the moment we left the following Morning. Pleasant and clean rooms and genuine welcome made this a lovely short stay and made you feel like you were staying with family rather than in a stangers house.

Having filled in a slip in the evening, breakfast was excellent with a full English, fresh fruit, tea and juices and offer of more.

Usually stay in 5 star hotels but this was a lovely change and will certainly be returning.

Would highly recommend to all without a shadow of a doubt.

We recently stayed at Orchard Close while visiting our daughter in Marlborough. This is a very good choice for anyone visiting the town - although just by the town centre it is really calm and tranquil in atmosphere so ideally situated.
The rooms are pleasant and comfortable and you get a fine breakfast. The owners were kind and helpful. We hope to revisit

We stayed here for 4 nights as we wanted a base from which to travel around Wiltshire. At first we were unsure about booking so many nights in one place but we needn't have worried. The owners were very friendly and couldn't have been more hospitable. A fold up bed was provided for our young daughter when we arrived. The rooms were clean and bright though not huge (although we did have the additional fold up bed in ours). Breakfast was excellent and there was homemade cake on the table when we returned from daily activities. The house is down a small lane but is within easy walking distance to the town. There is a large garden at the back from which our daughter was allowed to pick blackberries and have a run around. By the end of our trip the place was feeling like home from home and we didnt want to leave. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for somewhere to stay in Marlborough.

I wanted to show the beauty of the English countryside to two Spanish friends, so my boyfriend organized a bike route along the Avon and Kennet Canal. Due to a Jazz festival he could not find a hotel and contacted the Orchard Closed B&B looking for accommodation for us even though other sites indicated this was fully booked. The owner explained that she did not have a room for 3 but she had a double room available where she could put a little mattress. Perfect solution for us! The room was very, very nice and she was very welcoming, even offering to dry our clothes as we had an awful day of rain and we were full of mud everywhere.
The full English breakfast was the best I have had in England (excluding my mother-in-law!) and my friends loved the idea of having English breakfast, in a typical English house and with the company of other English couples. Price was incredible considering that we were three of us and very hungry sporty ladies. This is a definite must if in or near Marlborough, highly, highly recommended!

I booked this B&B with a bit or nervousness since there was no mention of it on TripAdvisor or on many other websites rather than their own. I was quietly confident that it might be good though when the owner asked what time we would be arriving, so that she could have a freshly made cake ready!! Thats a good sign in my book. So the place itself is nicely located a short walk from the high-street but in a quiet little lane, and we had bikes which they happily stored. The room wasn't huge but thats what we expected but it was very new and comfortable and had a lovely big shower which was a godsend after our 60 mile cycle there. They also made us a lovely pot of tea with cake to have in their large garden. The breakfast was equally nice with plenty of freshly cooked food and attentive service. All in all since it was cheaper than the other places we looked at in Marlborough, we think we got a bargain. We really enjoyed our stay and the hospitality of the owners so felt compelled to let other tripadvisor users know.
