A day out in Devizes. It's freezing cold. St John's church with its massive Norman tower and beautiful ditto chancel is locked fast. It's one of the things we came to see. Lunchtime. There is a wind blowing directly from the Urals down The Brittox and suddenly we are in Brogans. Warm cafe, warm smiles, hot tea, long menu of hot food. Perfect.
We were served by three different people at various times, all made us feel welcome, relaxed, at home. I don't normally risk a cup of tea when I'm out as it so often ends up as warmish milky grey stuff. Here it was a big mug with a genuine Teapig. The food was delicious and we didn't have to wait long for it. I had poached eggs royal, my beloved had peppered steak with chips, onion rings and salad. Lovely.
It gives no clue from the outside of how good it is. If you're in Devizes pop in. When they ask if you want a loyalty card say yes. You'll soon fill it.
