Went to the D + G yesterday for my Son's birthday. What a lovely experience starting from the warm welcome to the very gentle bill at the end. The food was first class, I started with the Beetroot, Stilton and Walnut salad (scrummy) followed by delicious Roast Pork with amazing crackling. I ended my meal with Banana Sponge, what a delight and so worth the drive from Somerset. I cannot recommend the G+D highly enough, BRILLIANT !!!!!

Had an incredibly sub standard Saturday lunch more akin to a "2 4 1" location than the 2 rosette eatery that this pub professes. Have eaten here before and have been very satisfied. On this occasion the G&D were way off the mark. Fish and chips - standard pub fayre came in with soggy anaemic batter. Awful chips not produced on the premises - too challenging to peel a spud? at £13.50 for F&C what would you expect? Salmon fillet was sent back for being undercooked so altogether an unpleasant lunch experience.
In my opinion this food was not prepared or cooked by a 2 rosette chef. Only 2 other covers in the pub so there was no pressure on the kitchen. This was a mistake and at my cost. Wont be back.... Overall terrible rating because of the food alone

Beautiful food, with excellent seafood. The bar and waiting staff were very pleasant, but need to improve their urgency in ensuring restaurant customers are being catered for. We eventually lost patience waiting to pay our bill, having managed to get it after a bit of a delay, so walked up to the bar with card and bill in hand - not sure why they thought we had originally asked for the bill, unless we were looking to pay it! Even the barman took a while to work out we were waiting to pay. Improve this, which is esay to do, and the review would be 5 stars.

A lovely village pub with an open log fire. A good menu with some great
fresh fish (including lobster and turbot) and home made puddings. We had a starter of pink beef and feta salad followed by battered hake and chips...excellent. For pudding the chocolate and orange bread and butter pudding was good as was the winter compote. Staff were attentive but not intrusive. Well worth a visit!

What a little gem of a pub+. Great staff, lovely snug bar and lounge with an open fire. The food was excellent with a good selection, and was well cooked and presented. They even sold us 2 jars of homemade jam and pickles! Don't like to be asked if the hand written tip added to the bottom of the bill was OK. They had just finished baking their own bread, and had been experimenting with different flavours of ice-creams. It's that sort of homely place. Delicious!! Happy days, Hugh
