“Could be more interactive.”
Reviewed March 15, 2013

Visited with three young children who enjoyed the "Foamhenge" activity and the museum trail. Most of the exhibits were in glass table cases too high for them to see though and quite a few of the activities had pieces missing or couldn't be used. Probably better for adults.

Thank you for your comments. You will have noticed that we are in the middle of a big new development. This will add a whole series of new things for children to do. I hope that you will bring the children back to see our new displays!

“Good now, even better when the building work is complete”
Reviewed March 13, 2013

Even with bits of it closed for renovation, this is well worth a visit. Wiltshire is such an interesting county, more passed-through than visited, but look beneath the surface and there is unendingly fascinating material.
The chap on the desk was a bit curt, but the women who were there later were very nice and helpful. They have a few interesting local books in the shop, but go to the Devizes bookshop where there are loads.

“Great small museum”
Reviewed March 4, 2013

Considering the small provinvial nature there was a good display of Wiltshire prehistory, putting in context the local discoverers of stonhenge and local barrows.

“Step into a different world”
Reviewed March 2, 2013

Travelled all the way from chippenham to get some posh envelopes from the stationery cupboard...& it was closed for lunch. So i went for a walk up town to pass the 1/2 hour wait, looking at the people & the things & noticed a remakable amount of historical buildings in a short space of time. Some of them have blue plaques telling their history, anyway found myself passing the museum, i was deliberating wether to go in (as last time they put their prices up from a pound to five pounds (which i thought a bit steep )but as there was a dithering couple outside blocking the entrance, i decided not to be like them & take the plunge & go in(they soon moved i'm pretty big.)Once inside the delightfull lady on desk told me it was half price today (bonus £2.75) ...so it might be £5.50 next time) so i wandered about..What a thrill ! there is so much to see & do , i forgot all about the stupid envelopes & was transported into a different world & its exciting past ,peoples,& glories , what an adventure ! Even with some rooms closed off it was an alladins cave of treasure & mundane , sword & scorcery ,golden hoards to fire blackened pots & pans, The layout is well presented & i ended up spending a good 2 hours in there. Well worth a visit & i cant wait to go back.just Brilliant ! I think i'll become a member as its only £3.75 a month & i think their planning something big for the summer of 2013 .Take it from me (dont dither outside ! come inside & learn about our ancestors who helped shape our world today. Im gonna take my family next time as i noticed that there was lots of brilliant games to play ...for the kids & adults alike , Im so glad that shop was closed for lunch!
