My wife and I booked a three night stay through a Travelzoo offer and met our friends from Altrincham there. The hotel staff were very friendly and showed us to our rooms. We had been upgraded to a 'best' room which was excellent and our friends had a previously booked ground floor room as one was disabled. At first they were worried about noise from the road, but this proved to be no problem. The food at dinner and breakfast was very good, but, if you are stopping for longer than three nights, you may find that the menu is fairly limited. Having said that, there was always a 'special' on the menu, and the beef casserole was superb. The surrounding country is, of course, beautiful and there is much to delight, minutes from the hotel or, at most, a half hour drive. Many guests went back time and again, which speaks for itself. We would too.

Room Tip: Book an upstairs room near the back if worried about road noise, but there stairs and corridors which could be tricky for those who are unstable.

We picked this hotel for a mid week short break as it was in a country location (idea for dog walks), but still close to towns such as Malmesbury & within easy striking distant of home (Thatcham, Berks). We got a lovely warm welcome including a hello from all the staff for a very excited dog! We booked a dog friendly room & we were not dissapointed. The room was comfortable & very clean as were all the public areas of the hotel. Much to my partners approval there was even real ale available in the bar which he wasted no time in tasting! The staff were helpful & suggested the best walks in the area etc. Breakfast was excellant with plenty of choice, but we didn't eat in the restuarant as walked to the local pub instead. I would highly recommend & we would not hesitate to stay again. Nice little touch was the doggy lolly pop which was greatly enjoyed by Rocky!

We had a very pleasant weekend at the Mayfield House Hotel. We stayed in Room 1 and I am at a loss to understand what "Don't be Fooled" found wrong with it. Yes, the floorboards squeaked a bit, but what do you expect in an old building. The room was large, bright and airy. The bathroom was large, fresh and clean. We found the service in the restaurant to be efficient and friendly and the food to be good wholesome food, well cooked and imaginatively presented.
This is a good country hotel that I would rate higher than the 3* rating that it has.
Strangely enough, I was too busy enjoying my weekend to feel compelled to count the number of drawers in the room.!!!!!!

Stayed for 2 night for our wedding anniversary with a Travelzoo deal which included an a la carte meal on the Saturday night. The food and service was excellent. Hotel very comfortable and clean. We had a standard room overlooking the garden which was roomy and had a large king size bed, sofa and plenty of storage places. Tea and coffee making facilities. The decor dated, bathroom basic, bath and over shower which was typical over bath and over shower, no power, but the room warm and comfortable, which was great as the weather was freezing. The breakfast had lots of choice including cooked to order.Staff very friendly and helpful. Ideally situated between Malmsbury and Cirencester and within easy reach of many of the Cotswolds tourist attractions.

Room Tip: Very quiet except when people used the near bye door onto the fire escape and left it open. Could be difficult for elderly or disabled as accessed is via a couple of flights of fairly narrow stairs and corridor.

We were looking for a place to stay in the Cotswolds with our dog and this was ideal. Great location for visiting Malmesbury and Cirencester. The room was in a separate annexe and was comfortable, quiet, spacious and very clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful, Dandy was very keen on the carrots and biscuits they gave her so her heart was won straightaway. We didn't use the restaurant but room service was excellent and the meals were top notch. The only down side for me were the springy foam type pillows which I find difficult to sleep on (they may have changed them had I asked). No hesitation in staying there again but I'd take my own pillow just in case!
