We only stopped here for lunch as I had been to this restaurant once before, almost 5 years ago. And this time is was just as delightful as I remembered it. My mother, sister and I greatly enjoyed our lunch at the Castle Inn (Tuesday afternoon).

The Castle Inn has a great location looking over the village square in Castle Combe. The interior feels historic and snug, yet it is bright and welcoming. The staff was very friendly.

For lunch we had the fish and chips, and mushroom tagiatelle. Both were really good. The food is upscale for pub food, yet the prices were very reasonable – about on par with other pubs and restaurants we’ve gone to.

An additional plus is that they had excellent wi-fi connection!

For a romantic weekend away, the setting could hardly be bettered, Castle Combe is beautiful. Maybe that's part of the problem. They just don't have to try too hard. Gorgeous old building and the four poster bedroom perfectly comfortable. The receptionist was lovely and very welcoming. The restaurant however was a big disappointment. The waiter's highly recommended 'pie' was actually a boring casserole with a lump of pastry on top. The haddock fish cakes tasteless with lumpy potato. The service was hurried and both courses served and cleared in 45 minutes. Maybe ok for lunch but for Saturday night it felt like they were trying to get us to leave. We returned to the hotel at 10.45pm the following night (having gone elsewhere for dinner) and ordered a couple of nightcaps, the bar staff were clearing the place, again we were made to feel as if we were in the way, despite spending £20 on two drinks, they were delivered almost grudgingly. Breakfast was ordinary to say the least. Nice fruit, toast and good coffee but the cooked breakfast was greasy and tasted of cheap cooking fat. We left most of it, as did the couple on the next table.

All in all, must try harder. If the food had delivered what The Salutation Inn up the road is serving, this Inn would come highly recommended.

We were booked to stay here 10/8, for a last minute weekend break.
Sadly on arrival we were informed that there was an issue with our room and we had been upgraded to The Manor House across the road.
Very disappointed, however the Room in the Manor House muse cottages was an absolute bonus. Stunning accommodation.
We chose however to eat back in The Castle that evening. Food and service was excellent, as was breakfast the next morning. Just so cosy and quaint, and all the staff were lovely and very apologetic with regards to the room issue.
Castle Coombe is just a big step back in time, and we plan to go back and get out stay in The Castle Inn soon.

My girlfriend and I stayed for an evening in one of the standard double rooms here and it was adequate and well kept. We had a lovely bedroom, if a little small and the decor was very tasteful. Only downside was the sloping ceilings, particularly in the bathroom. £125 a night we thought was a little steep but then the village itself is the most beautiful place I have ever had the pleasure of staying in and we thought the evening meal and the breakfast will make up for it.

The food in the bar/restaurant was brilliant. Very creative and tasted superb. It took a while to come but it was worth it. Then our cheeseboard took a further 30 mins to arrive but the staff were good enough to compensate us with a glass of port each. Perfect nightcap.

We slept well and as we arrived for breakfast, only one staff member was on duty to serve/collect and take orders. He was clearly stressed and needed an extra pair of hands. This also meant that we didn't get the attention needed and toast was burnt, things went cold and generally it was not a good start to the day considering the price we had paid.

I wanted to talk to a manager about this, however when it came to checking out, we were left waiting for over 10 minutes and had to find the barman to find someone to help us. In the end he took charge and managed to book us out himself. We were consequently late for our first appointment of the day and I wasn't of the mind to wait much longer to talk through our frustrations.

This place has the potential to be a top class Inn/Hotel if it can get more staff on board and especially if it can bring back the "quintessentially English" atmosphere it seemingly needs. Management has almost got it right and it won't take much to bring it back to 5*'s.

Room Tip: The top rooms have very sloping ceilings. We weren't warned about this so make sure to check bef...

This was our 4th visit to the Castle Inn and once again faultless. We have, so far, only visited at lunchtime as we bring family & friends, who are visiting us, to see the village of Castle Combe and also call in for a bite to eat. The food is excellent with a great choice of starters, mains and desserts. The last 2 visits have been on a Sunday and we have all had the roast dinner each time, 3 lovely slices of meat with Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and a seperate serving of vegetables. Desserts are lovely with my favourite being the Creme Brûlée with shortbread - divine. The staff are so pleasant, friendly, attentive and nothing is too much trouble. Really looking forward to many more visits to the Castle Inn in the future, must get along in the evening sometime. Would totally recommend.

While in Castle Combe we only thought it right to review this place. We didn't stay there but it is a lovely place with friendly locals.

The place is the epitome of what you would expect from a village of such charm. It's a postcard village and this establishment doesn't let that image down. It's right in the centre of a beautiful village. If you're a hiker, or just like to bask in the beauty of nature, step inside.

Walked into town looking for a shop, and since it was raining, ended up popping in for a few (As you do). Entering the place there is a lovely welcome feeling. The pub was bustling with locals and guests. The décor is warm and inviting. The staff were super friendly and gave me a quick history of the town. Felt very comfortable.

I can't say much about the rooms, but if they match the warm welcome of the bar, I would recommend the visit.
