“Setting and Service?”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 17, 2012

The setting is superb, could not be bettered, wonderful village, Manor House and lawns. Service however was something else.
We pre booked Afternoon Tea and arrived promptly. Introduced ourselves to the concierge and were asked to take a seat in the lobby. Fifteen minutes later we spoke again to the concierge and asked if we could be attended to. He apologised and introduced another member of staff who led us through to the lounge. Beautiful room, window seat but again left for lengthy time before order was taken. Food, when it did arrive was excellent but we seemed to be abandoned after that. Had to ask - twice - for refills of tea. Server came to neighbouring table to take their order only to discover he had forgotten to give them a menu! Another wait for the bill. Totally unacceptable, must try harder and train better.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your constructive feedback, and I am so sorry we appeared to be not on the ball on that day.

However I am very pleased that you enjoyed all the other aspects of your visit, especially your comments about the food itself.

Yours sincerely,

We went to visit Castle Combe and stop at the Manor to have tea. We were very nicely welcome, tea was excellent, the hotel looked lovely, all the staff were very efficient, friendly and were more than hepfull when we ask to visit a room in view of staying next time we go to England. The room we were shown was beautiful, very traditional english but with all modern appliances. The all hotel is very well kept, the garden is beautiful and we will definitaly stay for a few nights on our next vacation in England.

We stayed here for a two night break. We visited the hotel many times over the last 25 years but had not been for 12 years. The Hotel was as wonderful as ever. We spent the weekend re-living many happy times spent there with old friends
Our room (lower Thompson) was possibly one of the best we had ever stayed in - the bathroom stunning and the room fully equiped and comfortable, with a view over the grounds. The weather was awful, it is not meant to rain solidly for the whole weekend in July. This did mean that we spent more time inside the hotel enjoying the relaxing atmosphere.
The food in the restaurant deserves it's Michelin star. You can opt for recomended wine by the glass to accompany each course. The somelier was so knowledgable and spent time explaining the choice making you feel valued even though he had many tables to attend to. As we ate both nights in the restaurant I was alittle disappointed to find that many of the dishes that were on the tasting menu made up the al a carte menu. This then limited the choice as we had decided to have the 7 course tasting menu on our second night. The menu was not changed nightly and therefore knowing what we would be eating the next night we avoided these items, leaving little choice on the first evening.
Service was attentive and made you feel valued and special. There was a wedding in the hotel on the second night but these guest had their own bar so this did not encrouch on the residents.
Thank you to all the staff who made this weekend special for us. It will not be 12 years before we are back again. Hopefully the sun will shine next time.

The Manor House Hotel, where to start except that I wish I could stay there every weekend. It was truly fabulous and a wonderful stay was had by my husband on I for our one night mini break! The food in the restaurant was outstanding, we had the taster menu and our taste buds were tingling the whole way through, thank you so much :0) The gorgeous welcoming smell of wood smoke fires hits you as you enter the entrance hall and the cosy bar area was just right for a gin and tonic! After a wonderful breakfast in bed, we went for a walk and ended up having lunch at the golf club, the staff here were very friendly and the food was great again! All in all a 5 star experience and would highly recommend x

Room Tip: Ask for one of the sweet cottage style rooms, just gorgeous x

We visited the MHH for a wedding. Beautiful setting, amazing food, great service, lovely wedding. Only reason I didn't give an excellent rating was the overpriced drinks....£20 for 2 G&Ts is more expensive than London!!

We stayed here for 3 nights over Jubilee and had a wonderful time. The room itself was rather old fashioned, but the public areas were beautiful. We had a great afternoon drinking mint juleps in the bar and the staff could not have been friendlier. The Michelin starred restaurant is lovely - but hard to get into so book early!
