We visited the SHIP INN for the first time with a family group, including 3 and 7 year-olds, and it was perfect for the adults to chat & have a pleasant meal from the extensive (very) Hungry Horse menu while the kids played safely in the 'soft play climbing area' having wolfed down the kids meals. The place is absolutely huge inside with several seating areas in either small alcoves or open areas as well as a bar area with pool table & dartboard and big-screen TV. The main courses arrived promptly and all were well presented, tasty and ample quantity though the strange arrangement of having a small TV at the end of each alcove became annoying as we could clearly here the soundtrack for the film in the next (unoccupied) alcove. Service unfortunately deteriorated when we ordered the sweets - the first four came after 30-40 mins, the next after a further five mins & the last after another 5 min wait (shame otherwise I would have rated as excellent). The sweets appeared good value but the 'cake' options were very sickly & didn't get eaten. Lovely views & nearby walks along the river make this a good location & plenty of outdoor seating and outdoor kids play area for the sunnier days. TIP: Ideal for kids up to about 8-9 years old as they will love the soft climbing area.
