We walked up to The Hermit for lunch and a beer one sunny, Sunday afternoon. The pub was busy with people eating and the car park was nearly full which is always a good sign. We ordered a couple of sandwiches, bowl of chips to share and sat outside with a beer. After 10 minutes or so the sandwiches arrived with a bowl of chips to share.

I have to say that the quality of the sandwiches was terrible. I'm not sure who is working in the kitchen but they definitly need some training. Two slices of sliced brown bread which had been sat in a hot kitchen for a while as it had that dried out texture to it. A few slices of catering, coloured cheddar and half a jar of pickle. Our other sandwich was a runny tuna mayo, which was dripping out of the sandwich once it was picked up. Chips were nice!

A loverly little pub, in a great area, with views across the valley. All it needs is a little refurbishment and some attention to the menu and it could be a gold mine.

Real shame...but we won't be going back...

We were cold and wet and looking for an evening meal with our 4 year old. We had had a drink at The Hermit Inn many years ago and decided to go back there as we were in the area. The gentleman behind the bar seemed fairly fed up and we felt we were bothering him. The menu was fairly average pub food. I chose steak and mushroom pie and found I had a slab of steak and kidney. The pie was obviously cut form a large mass produced , school dinner type pie. It tasted ok but the veg was boiled to death. My husband had lamb Henry - again it was ok. I am sure if they cared they could do much better. Maybe they were all having a bad day but we won't risk it again other than for a drink.
