Bit worried after the bad reviews but got to the hotel and was greeted by friendly helpful receptionist. The room was beautifully decorated with ensuite bathroom with a big bath. Peaceful surroundings meant we got a good nights sleep, we had a varied tasty breakfast, and got an extra hour added on to the check out time for free thanks to the lovely staff. Great place to spend our anniversary.

I recently stayed at the Craiglands Hotel, upon arrival I found the reception staff to be extremely helpful and courteous. The property is a beautiful stunning building which I believe to be over 150 years old. I stayed in room 129, which was a very large room with a four poster bed. The quality of the room was excellent and I had a very comfortable sleep. The food was a very high standard and well presented. The hotel is in an ideal location and I will definately be returning back to Ilkley and staying in the Craiglands Hotel.

After flying from the Middle East to attend a wedding, we arrived at this hotel after being awake 24hours. We had two large suitcases which we had to negotiate through corridors, fire doors and alot of steps and eventually found our room which was tiny and dusty. We had to step over our cases to move around the room. We were very tired and wanted to sleep but discovered we were right above a disco for a wedding reception. We went and asked if we could be moved but were told no, they were fully booked and it would be over by 12.30 anyway. Being 11pm, we did not relish the thought of being kept awake by very loud music and also knowing we needed to be up at 7am but the staff did not care, we were not happy! The next morning, after breakfast we started to get ready for the wedding and discovered we had no hot water for a shower. Being tight on time we ended up having cold showers. The same the next morning. The second morning we practically had to beg for attention to get some coffee, a lot of things had been run out of and service was poor. Friends that were with us had a room about 4 times bigger than ours (also very dusty and cobwebby and a broken TV) but we were all charged the same price, 90 pounds. This hotel is an absolute rip off! We waited in vain to speak to a manager but no-one was ever available. What a surprise! Having travelled extensivally we have stayed in hotels that have charged half the price but seem like the Ritz in comparison to this one. The experience of this hotel took a lot of the sparkle out of what was a wonderful occasion for us.

Broken bottles in unmarked car park. Red carpet that was 100 years old and the last time it had been vacuumed. Key card did not work after trailing up to room which was 1/2 mile away. Corridors/doors/carpets disgusting. Food trays left in hall ways for hours. Skanky make up left in the bath room. No towels. Restuarant/Bars/Breakfast room invaded by dozens of druken wedding guests. DISCO , and I mean DISCO. Like a ghetto blaster under the mattress until 12.55 am. From 11.45-12.45 no one at reception. No one answered phone from room - the hotel phone number of the night service buzzer at reception. Then it appeared. Not a clue. Suprise suprise 5 to one the music finally stops. It is only then we can hear the ventilation fan right outside the window. Waking up with out our scheduled alarm call coming - and out Sunday newspaper request no where to be seen. Ignored at breakfast on entering the breakfast room by Vikki Pollard and the buffet was a selection of 3 cremated baked beans and a rubber egg type food substance. On departure I asked for the manager to discuss the myriad of problems with this "hotel" There was no one available - after discussion with the member of staff managed toi get £70 of the bill. PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT GO TO THIS HOTEL UNLESS YOU ARE AT A WEDDING AND GOING TO BE WELL ENOUGH LUBRICATED TO MISS ALL OF THE ABOVE.

We stayed here to attend a wedding, arriving at 9pm on a Friday night . We had booked (on one booking) a double and a twin . As under same name etc you expect two nearby rooms . No twin room found with little trouble from receptionists directions ..ours well thankfully neither of us are disabled in anyway, through glass doors , down some stairs up steep stairs then we found "double" room ! This refurbished room had a dirty carpet , no bedside lamps , the light switch that was loose, a bed which was up against the wardrobe (only one bedside table) and the said wardrobe was old scratched inside repainted on outside . This however had not stopped them having large scratches and holes in that paint work . The carpet had black footprints on it and the curtains looked from bargain bin as so thin . Our girls room whilst big had a dreadful old worn look which got better after heavy rain when wet patches appeared on the wall where the ceiling showed obvious water damage. Their bathroom had torn lino and black marks in the bath. Please do not expect rooms to be cleaned during your stay as beds are made but vacuuming , emptying of bins or cleaning bathrooms is not included. That may include some missed bits in between guests as we had crumbs in drawer! If you want to make yourself tea or coffee it is provided as long as you want very small cup bring a mug ! also overnight bags only incase you are in a single room masking as a doble as you will have to climb over your luggage althgugh that could give you another bedside table. We did bring to managements attention and got bedside lamps. This required the head board to be removed from the wall as plug was behind it (was fine once we had balanced it) mine we unplugged tv and stretched wire along floor to sit beside the bed and wardrobe door. The breakfast staff didn't know how big the breakfast area was but we found our girls eventually on our own ! Sundays breakfast touch was good with large tables set up in a separate room for all the guests from wedding who had stayed there. Good for us not for hotel as it gave us all a chance to exchange notes find them on trip advisor too. our final meal was Sunday lunch for 14 of our friends from area who had not been at the wedding food was good but service was Fawltey towers at its best got soup no spoons got tea no milk or sugar got maincourse missing cutlery again .. search party had to be deployed to find staff . Great weekend with friends but Hotel has a cheek to sell rooms in the condition they are . We did get small refund on 1 room not nearly enough

I recently spent two nights at the Craiglands with my wife, on a visit to see my father. It is an old Victorian spa hotel that the owners clearly could not afford to upgrade to a reasonable level. The function areas look good and this may be the business that the hotel concentrates on. However the accommodation is very poor. Small bedrooms, poorly redecorated and with the cheapest of thin mattresses. We ate one night in the restaurant - a very average meal took ages to serve. In the morning the breakfast was inedible - it had been cooked first thing and then left in a bain-mourie to cook to extinction. The most disappointing thing was that although I had specifically asked if the hotel had a lift as my wife has great difficulty walking we found on arrival that the lift had stopped working altogether. We decided wrongly to stay and make the best of it as we were promised that a lift engineer was on his way and in any case it was our plan to spend as little time as possible in the hotel. Two days later when we left the hotel the lift was still not working and the manager could not give any idea when it would be fixed, citing the age of the hotel. A shoddy operation all-round despite the efforts of a mainly young and friendly staff.

The occasion was excellant, the function room was excellantly prepared by Jodie and the hotel staff. The meal and attention to detail by the staff wasexcellant. everyone who attended remarked the whole occasion was well run and could not be faulted. Thank you to all the staff for making my daughters day a truely wonderful occasion.
