Description: The White Lion is a traditional coaching inn; with exposed timber and masonry, an abundance of comfortable corners to hide in, and always a warm and friendly atmosphere. Set on a riverside location in central Hebden Bridge, the inn has always been well known for fine country ‘pub’ dining, and its extensive choice of wines and real cask ales. All of which can be enjoyed throughout the year, whether that be in front of a roaring log fire, or in one of our scenic riverside cobbled courtyards. Surrounded by true Yorkshire history, the stunning countryside of the Pennines, and the deep ravined valleys of Calderdale; the area is popular with walkers, cyclists, country lovers, and those just in search of a contrast to a hectic lifestyle. Although nestled in the centre of the town near the ‘Yorkshire Bohemian’ shops for which Hebden Bridge is quite famous; the countryside can be easily accessed by foot straight from the doorstep of the inn. And that same doorstep has frequently offered a place of respite to many attempting the Pennine Way, or the more recent Tour De France cycle route. If sight-seeing is more your activity, then the famous sites of Haworth (with its Bronte Sisters and Railway Children heritage) and the World Heritage Site of Salts Mill in Saltaire, are all within very easy access. Close enough to the main rail and motorway networks, and just far enough away from the vibrant cities of Leeds and Manchester; the White Lion is ideally based for business or leisure. And if you were to require an excuse to stay with us for longer, then there are 10 spacious en-suite rooms to choose from. The newly refurbished Boutique bedrooms, with Victorian Roll-Top baths, Sleigh beds, and deep luxurious colours; are complemented by our cosy Courtyard Cottages - perfect for walkers, dog friendly, and with the riverside literally at your front door. All rooms benefit from free Wifi. Dated 1657, the White Lion is reputed to be the oldest building in the beautiful town of Hebden Bridge, which is renown for its independent lifestyle, creativity, and philosophy - the Yorkshire way! We very much look forward to extending a real Yorkshire welcome to you soon...

“Lovely food, shame about the service.”
Reviewed August 13, 2013

A little more expensive than normal pub food, but well worth it. The steak and ale pie, home made chips and mushies were wonderful. The roast beef dinner with a huge yorkshire pud and fresh vegetables was great. BUT..
after our five mile walk up towards Stoodley Pike we were starving. We headed past two other pubs/hotels to the White Lion, were shown to a table and sat down. A waitress had her back to us and was talking to a couple at the next table. The four of us discussed what we would like to eat, so the waitress knew we were there. She carried on talking. After ten minutes, and still no sign of a menu, the waitress was still talking. Another five minutes went by, so I suggested in a loud voice that we should to another pub. With that, the waitress flounced off to the bar and asked another waitress to bring us a menu. Then she glanced at us, looked at the ceiling, and smirked at the couple she had been talking to... I wonder if the Manager has realised that one of his waitress doesn't think she is there to work.

“Beautiful food”
Reviewed August 11, 2013

Came here for a weekend pub lunch and despite waiting a little longer than usual for our menus and bill the service was lovely and the food was impressive- generous portions, hot, tasty and beautifully presented. I wish it might've been easier for us to find or sit in the outdoor riverside seating. Lovely place

“Sunday lunch with friends 11th August 2013”
Reviewed August 11, 2013

It was the first time we had been to the white lion in Hebden Bridge. It had a lovely feel to the place. Nice and tranquil inside whilst still been full of other diners. The food was very good and most definitely home made. The service was spot on with staff asking if everything was fine and the waiters looking to see if you needed anything so you could catch their eye without waving a large red flag. We will definitely be going to the white lion again in the future.

“Generous portions of lovely food”
Reviewed August 11, 2013

I really like this pub. Whenever anyone visits, I always take them here. The roast beef was lovely and my friend's gammon was of excellent quality. Having been before and had one of the platters / boards, I can recommend these too. The puddings are well worth the money as they're all home made and taste it!
They have a really good selection of ales, which I'm told are great (I don't drink beer).
Bbay friendly too.

“Good food”
Reviewed August 9, 2013

The White Lion has recently been lovingly refurbished and it is great for a relaxed pub meal. Please do not be mistaken, this is not a restaurant, it is still very much a pub. So, even though they have some serving staff, you can still get your own pint at the bar!
The food is good, although I would personally prefer a touch more seasoning on some of the meals I've had there. Other than that, it is fresh and the portions are very generous... especially if you order fish and chips.
The drinks are a little bit pricy for a pub, but Hebden is a tourist mecca, so I suppose that's to be expected to an extent.
