Description: The White Lion is a traditional coaching inn; with exposed timber and masonry, an abundance of comfortable corners to hide in, and always a warm and friendly atmosphere. Set on a riverside location in central Hebden Bridge, the inn has always been well known for fine country ‘pub’ dining, and its extensive choice of wines and real cask ales. All of which can be enjoyed throughout the year, whether that be in front of a roaring log fire, or in one of our scenic riverside cobbled courtyards. Surrounded by true Yorkshire history, the stunning countryside of the Pennines, and the deep ravined valleys of Calderdale; the area is popular with walkers, cyclists, country lovers, and those just in search of a contrast to a hectic lifestyle. Although nestled in the centre of the town near the ‘Yorkshire Bohemian’ shops for which Hebden Bridge is quite famous; the countryside can be easily accessed by foot straight from the doorstep of the inn. And that same doorstep has frequently offered a place of respite to many attempting the Pennine Way, or the more recent Tour De France cycle route. If sight-seeing is more your activity, then the famous sites of Haworth (with its Bronte Sisters and Railway Children heritage) and the World Heritage Site of Salts Mill in Saltaire, are all within very easy access. Close enough to the main rail and motorway networks, and just far enough away from the vibrant cities of Leeds and Manchester; the White Lion is ideally based for business or leisure. And if you were to require an excuse to stay with us for longer, then there are 10 spacious en-suite rooms to choose from. The newly refurbished Boutique bedrooms, with Victorian Roll-Top baths, Sleigh beds, and deep luxurious colours; are complemented by our cosy Courtyard Cottages - perfect for walkers, dog friendly, and with the riverside literally at your front door. All rooms benefit from free Wifi. Dated 1657, the White Lion is reputed to be the oldest building in the beautiful town of Hebden Bridge, which is renown for its independent lifestyle, creativity, and philosophy - the Yorkshire way! We very much look forward to extending a real Yorkshire welcome to you soon...

“Relaxing and homely”
Reviewed January 20, 2013

Stayed two nights in one of the boutique rooms, pricey for what it is, but it was still a lovely stay. The most comfortable bed ive ever slept in, and an amazing deep bath!
Bar prices were city centre rates £3-£4 a pint etc, but the interior is lovely and traditional, and all the staff were friendly and helpful.

“Return visit”
Reviewed January 4, 2013

The last time we visited in April, I only gave 3 stars and said 'Disappointing visit', but this time, there has been a definite improvement. The only slight problem we had this time, was that our main courses arrived before the starter plates had been cleared, but I can live with that. I feel there was a definite improvement on food and service, mainly due, I think, to a young man who kept coming round to the tables to make sure everything was OK, attentive, but never intrusive.
We took our one year old grand daughter, and they couldn't have been more helpful, in providing a (very clean) high chair and asking if we needed food or water heating up for her.
Will definitely visit again, when next in UK.

“Wonderful Coaching Inn, roaring log fires...”
Reviewed January 3, 2013 via mobile

Following the refurb a year ago, this is now the finest Inn in Hebden Bridge for real ales, great food, roaring fires and boutique accommodation. Michael, Rebekah and all the staff are extremely friendly and welcoming. I just keep coming back for more, and I live in Leeds!

“Comfortable early evening venue with good food”
Reviewed November 30, 2012

Enjoyed a Continental platter to share(Cheese fondue was a nostalgic moment) follwed by a great beef stew and dumplings and a roast beef(good taste to beef but usual problem with overcooking). Good pint of Copper Dragon and a half of proper cider. Nice setting and helpful staff. Please Please teach waitresses how to serve and clear-stacking dishes in front of diner is a real turnoff-just alittle investment in them that will help restaurant and them for the future.
Defo use again and will recommend
