An almost completely unspoilt pre-industrial revolution hilltop village that echoes haworth but minus the brontes;the views from the top of the crags at the edge of the village is a must for the strongwilled(no safety fences!)The small cafe in the heart of the village is a delight as is the school museum

Located in the pretty village, Heptonstall towers over it. It looks pretty eerie but you cannot deny how beautiful it is. Also if you are a Sylvia Plath admirer she is buried in the new graveyard. Some great history there, and interesting old graves if you are an enthusiast. The views from the village are amazing and even though this isn’t a tourist destination per se, it is definitely a place to visit to have a taste of old world architecture. We personally loved it! Close to Hebden Bridge so if you have a car it is a good place for a detour. You can park in the Social Club's parking (check the website it tell you the exact name) and there is no fixed parking rates, just a donation to the club. The parking is a short walk away from the abbey.

Heptonstall encapsulates our weaving history and sitting above Hebden Bridge gives the visitor plenty to see and do in the area.

I visit my husbands grave in the graveyard by the church regular since 2001. It never changes thankfully! You can feel, the souls of the centuries passing around you. Walk along the Main Street and imagine the irons of the the horses clipping the cobbles of the streets. Visit the old jail by the village stocks and feel the coolness in the darkness. Visit the school museum and read the names carved in the wooden benches.

The old mulled windows of the old houses hiding a past if only they could show us. I love these old villages and hamlets.time stands still up here. It's a place to be alone, to think, to write to take in the history of this charming place. A timber village that was raised to the ground 700 years ago rebuilt and standing in this majestic point at the height of the hillside.

Visit the cross for a cosy welcome, a open fire in the winter and good home cooked food. Friendly staff and local people. Just don't destroy it with heavy use of cars park up and walk to the village
