La Poggiolaia is a tuscan retreat with unspeakable beauty. My wife and I spent two weeks at La Poggiolaia with my parents and brother. It was a fantastic stay. La Poggiolaia is a phenomenally quiet location with breathaking views of vineyards, olive groves and San Gimignano. La Capano has everything you could want. A fully outfitted kitchen, 4 bedrooms, 4 full baths and a shaded deck with views I didn't tire from even after 4 weeks. In addition, there was a spacious sitting area, a large dining room and a piano room.
The staff (Sylvia and Peter) and owner (Paola) were attentive, thoughtful and very friendly. My only regret is not asking more advice when planning our excursions as their advice could have saved us time and trouble.
The property has a beautiful pool and plentiful plantings of basil, herbs, eating grapes, tomatoes that are for the use by visitors. How phenomenal is that? Should you decide to cook at home you enjoy the freshest ingredients!
I know individuals who make La Poggiolaia an annual visit and it is very easy to understand why. Although it is remotely located which requires car rides or train rides to see typical tourist attractions, it's remote location provides a level of tranquility that is unsurpassed. Each morning I spent on the terrace, drinking coffee and savoring the views No sounds of traffic, no planes flying over head, just the sweet sound of birds,...La Poggiolaia is a tuscan retreat with unspeakable beauty. This property is a gem and if you have ever dreamed of staying in Tuscany, I can't think of a better place. While I can't say enough positive things about the property itself here are some other highlights if you actually need more reasons to make this your stay:
- Wine tastings at Tenuta della Luia (5 minutes away) - this is an up and coming boutique winery. Gianni was an enthusiastic and thoughtful host. We are wine drinkers and our only regret is not being able to bring enough wine back, but thank God we can order online!

- 15 minutes to Certaldo Alto a beautiful medieval city with phenomenal views, stores and restaurants
- Wednesday Market at Certaldo (You MUST do this)
- Less than 1 hour to Sienna by car
- Less than 1 hour to San Gimignano by car
- Less than 1 hour to Volterra
- 2 hours to Cinque Terre
- 1 hour to Florence (45 minutes by train from Certaldo)
- numerous wonderful Trattoria's and Osteria's in Certaldo, Certaldo Alto, Lucardo and Fiano
- 10 minutes to a fantastic Pizzaria (trust me you haven't ever had pizza like this before)More
