“Cute, quaint, great location, awesome staff!”
Reviewed February 3, 2013

La Posada Azul was our 1st stop on our 1st trip to Nicaragua and where we started falling in love with the country and all the awesome people in it! Andy the hotel manager was so extremely helpful even before we got there, corresponding via email helping me get our transportation set up, then again via Skype when our original flight was canceled & we needed to change our transportation.
To start the location is excellent, in the middle of town close to most everything, and importantly just one block from the beach. You can walk where ever you need to go! The town is busy with a lot going on outside, the great part about the hotel though is once you enter through the main door, you are stepping into your own little quiet cozy hide away.
The common areas of the hotel are homey (for us as we spend most our down time around our pool in the outdoor living spaces) we did the same at La Posada Azul. The common area provides many little nooks where you can relax privately with your companions or pull up chairs and meet other interesting travelers...we did both.
The pool area was filled with sun and convenience our second day instead of heading to the beach again we set up shop next to the pool in the beautiful outdoor garden area. The honor bar made getting drinks simple, and the common area bathroom was nice so you didn't have to go the few extra steps to your room. By the way, drink up in the honor bar, the prices are very inexpensive even if you are trying to catch a buzz! We loved Toña, oooh and the juice they had in the fridge was yummy!
This hotel is limited on the number of rooms which adds to the warm feeling of it. We saw 2 rooms and both very nice. Don't book wanting a Ritz kind of room, if you want an 'American' type hotel stay in an 'American' hotel, though I recommend a Nica hotel vs any chain any day. The rooms give you everything you need, plenty of space to spread out, comfortable bed, ICY COLD AIR CONDITIONING ( we had heard cold A/C was hard to find so my boyfriend put the unit on low the 1st night, I woke up dreaming I was in the Article circle, no joke!). The showers were warm, another not so common feature in Nicaragua. I took an entire cold shower before we realized the water got nice and HOT! I do not believe any of the rooms have TV which is actually a welcomed difference, however if you have to catch a game or something there is a TV in the commen living room.
Make sure to eat breakfast at the hotel at least one morning, it was EXCELLANT! It will be hard when we go back to San Juan to check out any other hotel because we loved La Posada Azul, maybe we will try their other property next door, it looked cute as well!

While living in SJDS I stayed at La Posada Azul on two occasions, when I had friends come and visit. It is a true gem. quaint and oozing with charm. It's also a stones throw away from the beach. It's peaceful and quiet.

I highly recommend staying here.

We were only there for a night but the staff were all very nice. We had to leave super early the next morning and thought we'd miss the breakfast but they made our breakfast earlier than normal. The lady at the front desk was very helpful with arranging our travel. I loved that the room & bathroom were so clean. Although we weren't there long enough to enjoy the pool and honor bar, it looked very clean and nice.
If I were to go back to SJDS and stay in town, my choice would be La Posada Azul again!

Room Tip: Bring your own beach towel.

We spent three nights at this hotel after having experienced four nights in average to under average hotels around Nicaragua. We were super pleased to have found this hotel as it is clean, very nicely decorated and has an amazing staff. The maids in particular were amazing helping us with everything we needed and making wonderful breakfasts in the morning. It is also steps away from the beach and has a nice pool to hang out if you don't like the wind at the beach. We definitely would recommend.

Room Tip: Room 1 is right next to the entrance and faces the street. Other rooms are more quiet.

We stayed in room 6 at this hotel. Had our own sitting area overlooking the pool. It felt very intimate and private. We loved the small size of the B&B and the dining area is definitely worth writing home about! Breakfast was absolutely delicious and different everyday. Staff were friendly and extremely helpful..We would recommend these lodgings to everyone visiting San Juan del Sur. Where else would you find an honour bar!

Room Tip: Room 6 definitely!

We stayed for six days in this beautiful hotel. It is small and intimate. We were able to meet lots of great people. All the staff was very helpful and friendly. We liked the honor bar and the pool area. We also used their sound system around the pool. I miss the fabulous fruit tray they made up for us every morning.

Room Tip: number six is the best room

We stayed here over new years and had a great time. The managers are wonderful and very helpful. The place is very clean and has a beautiful common area and little pool. There is a stereo hook up by the honour bar but we generally found guests were quiet in this area and it was nice to meet other guests. Notwithstanding the hotel is very central, we didn't not have an issue with noise. It was a little loud before NYE but I am not sure you could have escaped the noise of new years anywhere in SJDS. The breakfasts were plentiful and really good. They have a set menu but you can ask for toast etc. if this does not suit you. I would recommend this place. The rooms are beautifully decorated in general. 6 is definitely one of the nicer rooms but we were in 1 on the last night and it was quiet notwithstanding it faces the street.

Room Tip: 6 is a great room.
