“A wonderful beautiful family! (not for families though)”
Reviewed April 6, 2012

Naked tiger was a wonderful experience for me! Travelling with a friend, we planned on being there for 3 or 4 nights... Ended up staying more than a week! The view from up there on the mountain is spectacular, almost dream like. The pool is awesome and I guarantee you will get so brown hanging out beside it! The hostel is clean and airy and open. the food is yummy and not too expensive. You can always go into town for an even cheaper lunch at the cafeteria in that greenish blueish building anyway.

The hostel is definitely a party hostel and for a few days straight it will be nonstop music and drinking and playing around. So fun! Everyone is really nice and everyone hangs out together as a family. But then, fear not! For it will quiet down in day time after that. This fact really pleased me as a guitar player, there was time to play my own music.

But the best part of this place is the staff! They made us feel like part of the family instantly. Yes, they will tease you, but they will also love you and take care of you! Jeff, one of the owners, has the nicest soul and will definitely go out of his way to take care of you. Everyone is so warm! they don't act like they are better than you, or make you feel discluded as I have felt in other hostels with the staff. Happy family! I definitely recommend naked tiger to all the young and beautiful and at least partly insane.

Much love for the tiger and for jeff!

I just visited the hostel and found out that they just opened a restaurant. They serve the best burgers you can find in town: tasty and at an affordable price! Their ingredients are fresh and they have a variety selection in smoothies. The view from this place is incredible and their service and attention is very good. Even if you are not registered in the hostel you can visit the restaurant.

This hostel is special (stayed here in march 2012), no doubt about that. You will mainly (90%) meet people from the states so it is not very international. Weather you like the nonstop party up in the hills depends on what you are looking for. I just want to point out some facts:

1. The website tells you that this place is not downtown but that you could walk from there in 15 minutes. That is a lie and complete bulls***. It is an exhausting uphill walk that will take you AT LEAST 45 min! I guess most of he people would need over one hour. Without luggage. So never try to walk there! I don't know why the owners put false information on the website. Though it is true that there is a shuttle every 2 hours but we decided that staying in a place downtown is much much more convinient.

2. There is no kitchen. And of course no shop. So you will have to buy all your drinks at the bar (or bring them with you from town (but no fridge)) and all your food in the restaurant. Not really the budget option though the food is not that expensive, at least relatetd to european or american standards (but this nicaragua).

3. There are 3 or 4 dorms, all located on the second floor. Strange thing is that you have to go through the first to get to the others. So better do not try to sleep in the first one before 4 a.m.

4. Staff is sometimes rude and is hard to differ from the guests cause they party like all the others. We didn't feel dismisses sometimes.

Room Tip: any but not the first one after the stairs

My girlfriend and I traveled through Central America (Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama) and our first stop was The Naked Tiger hostel. A friend of mine from San Francisco told us about the place and how it has a pool and great views and definitely worth the money. So why not right?

The Naked Tiger is a little out of town and at first we thought we wanted to be right in the middle... but learning later in the trip, the places in town look horrible! Really small, kind of dirty, and just a place neither of us wanted to stay. And i'm not a person that really cares about what the hostel looks like because i've traveled so much before, but once you see the luxuriousness of Naked Tiger with the pool, booze, resturant, it was a no brainer. They have a shuttle that takes you into town every other hour so theres no real point to stay in town.

If you really feel like you need to be in town because of the nightlife etc... FALSE! Naked Tiger always has music playing, everyone is hanging by the pool, its literally a mansion pool party at your feet. There were multiple days where all i wanted to do was stay at the hostel & not even hit the town because we were having so much fun. They have themed parties and all sorts of entertainment, it was all a blast!

The staff was very friendly, all speak english and the two owners are from the bay area as well. One of them (looks like a redheaded porn star with his mustache) Jeff keeps the energy going and makes sure everyone is having a good time. Ryan can answer all the questions you have and give you recommendations on excursions and other places to see.

They offer shuttles to all the nice beaches and surf lessons if you're interested. After a long day at the beach, you can come right into the hostel, order good, inexpensive food at their resturant, pregame with all your new traveling friends, and go out for a night in town.

Whether you are traveling with your significant other or traveling solo, HIGHLY RECOMMEND you stay here. You'll meet a bunch of great people, you have everything at your disposal, you'll come home with UNBELIEVABLE photos, & a lot of great memories. It was my favorite hostel on the trip by far... and for those of you who are going to Panama after, check out Bocas Del Toro... great spot as well!

GET AMONGST IT!

Absolutely cannot say enough good things about this place!
My friends and I were planning on a 3 day stay, which turned into 8 days!
The staff was friendly, attentive and from the first *snap*pop*fizz* of our 'welcome home beer' we knew TNTH was different.
The facilities are impeccable, the entire place is cleaned tip to tail each day; the view- divine; the people- like minded and DEFINITELY know how to have a rockin good time. If you are tight lipped, tight assed or up tight, KEEP AWAY. If you enjoy a warm day spent in a breeze, poolside, with a cocktail, rehashing who remembers what from the previous night (or entire day, as the case may be), then this is the place for you!
On second thought- If you ARE 'tight lipped, tight assed or up tight' this may be just what you need to break out that cocoon and let you be the beautiful butterfly you remember burying years ago.
All in all- wonderful, fabulous, superb, amazing, terrific, dandy and any other synonyms that strike your fancy!
We'll be back!!

Beautiful house, perfect setting. Excellent links to the main town, which is very good to get away from sometimes.
I was disgusted by how dirty the pool was, but I think maybe there are issues with the cleaning system.
The 'party' atmosphere that runs in the veins of this hostel is really all it has to offer other than the view.
I was greeted on entry by the nicest staff member I met there, I believe he was one of the owners. The rest of the staff I found pretty rude in honesty, and sometimes getting a drink from the bar would be a task. Somehow the people sitting staring at a computer screen would fail to notice a customer standing at the bar. I wouldn't leave anything in the refrigerator, as I once stumbled upon a staff member helping herself to some of my food. I was disappointed to hear that one of the staff "hated people", and this was clear with facial expressions he managed to wear when you'd ask him very politely for a packet of cigarettes. I wondered why someone who had such a dislike of the human race would ever want to work in a hostel, but gave up caring when I realised he was just a bit of a tool. One of the owners (spitting image of Keith Lemon (http://uncyclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/Keith_Lemon)) was very rude, and seemed a little bit jaded. Maybe too much drinking, too much cocaine, too much having to deal with 'people' all the time, or the fact that he just isn't that nice. But yeah, bad vibes from him, unless you have breasts.

So, expect hedonism, in it's most malignant and tepid form, and lots of people doing things that common sense denotes as stupid.

Room Tip: Go next door.

I'm new to traveling, but after spending 10 days at the Naked Tiger I've officially cought the travel bug. This place has everything I had hoped for and more. Friendly, helpful staff. Free transportation to town. Scheduled activities. Clean bedrooms, restrooms, and showers. Great music by the pool. Community kitchen for family style dinners. And movie nights. Everyone must stay here!
