Myself and a girlfriend planned on staying only 1 week at Madera's village and then were going to travel around Nicaragua, our first week there was so amazing that we ended up staying for the whole duration of our trip.
The staff and people we met made our trip. I don't know if we were just lucky or if it's always that awesome (I bet it is!) everyone we met made us feel like we had been old friends from forever ago. The staff always had something fun going on, whether it was beers around the table, movies, beach bonfires, trips into town, or organizing a group boat trip.
We stayed our first week in one of the private cabanas which was incredible, I felt like jane from Tarzan sleeping in a tree house! Our next week we stayed in one of the cottages with the shared bathrooms which was just as great, I never even noticed that we were sharing a bathroom as they kept everything spik and span.
Maderas beach is only a short 5-10 min walk away, and it's beeeeeautiful. So many things to do there also, and the surfing is amazing. Also you can catch a $3.00 shuttle to San Juan from the beach.
All in all, This place is amazing, I plan to go back ASAP. It is a must must must on your trip, you will not regret it!
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- We are located at Maderas Beach, about 20 minutes outside of San Juan del Sur. We offer a three daily meals, either a la carte or as part of a pre-fixe menu. We are like a boutique hotel, but less pretentious. We love people who want a place to surf, read, debate, and do yoga daily; who want to lose themselves in a place, and find themselves in the people. We offer tailored packages for short-term guests and very reasonably priced rates for people planning to stay longer than 3 weeks. We are not in Lonely Planet or other guidebooks; we like having to be found. ... more less
