I arrived in SJDS off the bus looking for somewhere to stay from the Lonely Planet book, while getting my bearings an American couple asked if i needed some help, they didnt know my original place that I was looking for, they recomended El Peurto, about 3 mins walk from the bus drop off...I am glad i took their advice, I stopped here twice, very clean, safe, good price $23,free wifi & the morning coffee with biscuits great. (when i did find my original place, just to check it out...glad i hadnt found it the night before - horrible! - Lonely Planet getting it wrong!!!again)

We spoke to some tourists in Granada and they recommended El Puerto. We checked it out on arrival and found a very nice, clean, airy room with a small balcony with chairs. Location good and friendly manager. The coffee and cookies in the morning was really appreciated. We had one of the bottom rooms which was great as we would rather not do stairs.

We were recommended El Puerto by another couple we met in Nicaragua for the cleanliness and the location. We were not disappointed. The hotel was only a few steps from the market where there was lovely tipical food for a great price. In the morning, El Puerto had coffee set up with cookies, what a great touch! They have rocking chairs in the front and a nice little lobby where you can also purchase refreshments. Gertrude, the German lady who runs the Hotel was very helpful and hospitable.
The only downfall was that we were there on a saturday night (and sunday night) and the saturday night there was absolutely horrendous for sleeping. There was a guy on a motorbike (with no muffler) that seemed to be zooming around the city always passing in front of our hotel. And there was the crazy rooster.....We had never heard anything quite like this after a whole week in Nicaragua. We are nature lovers and enjoyed getting up with the call of the rooster every morning around 5h30-6h00 AM, but 2h00AM was a little early! This rooster's internal clock was completely wrong, he would sing at 2h00 AM but not after that. The second night we shut all the windows in the bathroom (where the rooster seemed to be the loudest) and shut the bathroom door, and barely heard it. We understand that this was nothing that had to do with the Hotel itself or the owner, but thought we should mention that saturday nights in town seem to be busy...
Overall, clean and cozy room, great value and we would return there and recommend this!!

Very nice, quiet and clean place directly in the entrance of the part close to the beach in San Juan del Sur. Rooms with air condition, free coffee and cookies in the morning, the best i found in mid range class in San Juan del Sur.
