“Best kept secret in San Juan del Sur”
Reviewed February 21, 2013

It isn't out on the main drag, but when you find this restaurant, you'll be sure to visit it many times. This little jewel has a very diverse menu. The ambiance is so inviting. And the waiters all speak English. Prices are very reasonable. You must try El Colibri.

“Mmmmmmmm!!!”
Reviewed February 20, 2013

We ate here twice last week both early evenings and didn't have a reservation, but we were accommodated immediately. We were keen to eat here due to the ratings on TripAdvisor and weren't disappointed!
A bit harder to find as its not down by the beach or close to other restaurants - I say not close to, it only takes 2 minutes to walk around the place! - but worth seeking out for sure! The open air garden area was nicely lit and the furniture and general ambience was very welcoming.
On our first evening we were seated inside the restaurant where they have a few tables, there are also several undercover outside (majority - these definitely need a reservation!) and a couple out in the open.
The menu whilst not extensive consisted of meals any of which we'd have been happy to eat! The food when it came (hummus and crudités, home-bread, beef kebabs, fish in almond sauce, banana split, washed down with a jug of sangria) was plentiful, fresh, and very, very tasty! Service was great, our waiter put up with my so-so Spanish but was friendly, funny and nothing was too much trouble! We had such a good night that we made a reservation for the Friday - or so we thought....
Friday rolled around and on arrival at the restaurant it appeared that the booking had been made for us for the following night when we'd have been in Miami airport! However as we were early we agreed to be away from an outdoor table before the next reservation with no hassle for the staff. Again the food was fabulous, fresh, tasty and a decent serving, this time beef and fish carpaccio - separate dishes, veg curry, chicken stuffed with walnuts and raisins, chocolate cake & ice cream, which we had to finish off sitting in the garden seats as the next guests arrived early!
The framed mirrors hanging inside on the walls are for sale and are gorgeous, if we hadn't had hand luggage only we'd have bought one! The toilets are small but clean, colourful (like most things in San Juan del Sur!) but just watch the small step when you head back outside!
Great place to eat, great value, very friendly staff (one remembered us from our first visit and we hadn't even spoken to!) and definitely worth a visit - we'll go back for sure!

“You have to stop here”
Reviewed February 17, 2013

The food far beyond exceeded my expectations. I had filet mignon with gorgonzola sauce which was one of the tastiest and tender pieces of filet I have ever had. Gazpacho was eh ok. The salad was even delicious. My husband had the penne pasta with vodka cream sauce peas and bacon. Another delicious entree. The service was ok and from what I understand- you need reservations although we got there as they opened the gates at 6 and were immediately sat but I saw them turn many people away so make reservations.

They are closed mondays and it is located behind the large church/ square.

“Nice relaxing local restaurant.”
Reviewed February 16, 2013

The food was so delicious. It was very busy, and you may have trouble getting in, but the food is worth the wait. Also the place has a great vibe with lots of interesting visitors and ex-pats coming together.
