En route to the rice terraces of Yuanyuang county Yunnan China, we had an overnight stay in the old town of Jianshui. After getting some advice, we decided on Lin An Inn, a courtyard house. It's located in the Main Street in old town section. A beautiful place, clean and has a homey feel. You get a feel of the history of the house. The owners are friendly and you can walk around the old town. The owner had dogs and my children loved them. Definitely worth staying.

We stayed at the family room. It has 2 bedrooms, a living and a dining hall. Outside the room is a coffee table and 2 lazy chairs for chatting and looking at the ancient city. Fantastic and above our expectation.

Room Tip: Ask for room #288 or #266, which are 2 bedroom units if you have 4 travellers.

We stayed in Lin An Inn in July 2012 for 1 night.

When we booked, we were slightly surprised by the relatively high price for the room (double room for 280 rmb a night). But: it was so worth it!

The hotel is in the main street of the old town. You will not be bothered by noise, as the hotel is in a courtyard. The courtyard is old-style and renovated (in a good way).

The room is big with an even bigger bed. It has a separate living room and bathroom. The bathroom was very very clean with the best shower we had during our trip. All is modern, clean but in a tasteful Chinese style with fits the courtyard.

Their breakfast is simple, but tasty. We had toast with egg, juice, coffee and fresh fruit for 28 rmb per person if I remember well.

One thing: the owners are very friendly but don't speak English.

We loved this place! The rooms are very nice, perfectly clean and very well and newly equipped. The quality is similar to what you can expect in Europe, but at Chinese price.

The "standard rooms" are very convenient but you can also choose the "ensuite rooms" with living room and balcony.

They don't serve lunch, nor dinner, but you can have a drink and relax in the beautiful small courtyard. You can have breakfast, but you have to order it one day in advance (not included).

The hotel is located in the nicest street of old Jianshui with restaurants, shops and no traffic. 2 minutes walk to the Zhou Familiy garden.

The Lonely Planet says the owners don't speak English, which is true. But they are smart enough to understand what you want and to help you. Just make sure someone speking chinese calls for the reservation, and then, everything is fine. They have been very kind.

It's useless to bargain. One more time, the prices in the Lonely Planet are wrong. The real prices are far below.

We tried to book this guesthouse, giving a phone call from Kunming, but the lady on the phone could not undestand english... So we booked at the XXX hotel on the same road. Which was just ok, but with no heaters (like in most hotels in Yunnan)... and it was really cold in winter. The next morning we went to Lin Ann and cheked in. The lady and the man running the guesthouse were very kind, and our 3 children really enjoyed playing in the small and beautifull courtyard of this guesthouse. The familly room was very nice, large (2 rooms), very clean, perfect hot water and there was also a air cond / heater !!! Last good point : the location is perfect, just in the middle of the old center.
