After driving a demanding dirt-road for over an hour I arrived at the gates of Kagga Kamma.
The road up there brings you in the right mood because for me Kagga Kamma was all about having the feeling of being in a special place.
Somehow the Reserve creates the feeling that you are completely by yourself, days of traveling-distance between you and the next stop, but in fact you are within few hours from Capetown.
The number of game is quite limited but the very well preserved Bushman-paintings and the rich snake-population make up for that. Both Rangers present, proved to be very skilled with snakes, allowing to view the wild animals from very close by. Besides the reptiles all present game and plants were given an in-depth explanation.
I have done my share of game drives, but I did not have the feeling once that the Rangers were going through the same-old routine. They were very enthusiastic and passionate about the animals, plants and Bushman-paintings.
Service and accommodation were up and above expectations.
Very clean and not-to-warm swimming-pools, beautiful made cave-bedrooms and huts ... and a very nice bar and restaurant environment for spending the calm hours.
I did not visit the Chalets myself, so I cannot comment on them. But I would be very surprised if they prove to be on a different level then the rest of the Reserve.
One small remark, not having a fridge in the room was a minor disappointment.
I had a wonderful time there and will suggest it to all my friends.
