Kagga Kamma Nature Reserve
Certificate of Excellence

After driving a demanding dirt-road for over an hour I arrived at the gates of Kagga Kamma.
The road up there brings you in the right mood because for me Kagga Kamma was all about having the feeling of being in a special place.

Somehow the Reserve creates the feeling that you are completely by yourself, days of traveling-distance between you and the next stop, but in fact you are within few hours from Capetown.

The number of game is quite limited but the very well preserved Bushman-paintings and the rich snake-population make up for that. Both Rangers present, proved to be very skilled with snakes, allowing to view the wild animals from very close by. Besides the reptiles all present game and plants were given an in-depth explanation.

I have done my share of game drives, but I did not have the feeling once that the Rangers were going through the same-old routine. They were very enthusiastic and passionate about the animals, plants and Bushman-paintings.

Service and accommodation were up and above expectations.
Very clean and not-to-warm swimming-pools, beautiful made cave-bedrooms and huts ... and a very nice bar and restaurant environment for spending the calm hours.

I did not visit the Chalets myself, so I cannot comment on them. But I would be very surprised if they prove to be on a different level then the rest of the Reserve.

One small remark, not having a fridge in the room was a minor disappointment.

I had a wonderful time there and will suggest it to all my friends.

Room Tip: If the weather permits, go for the Outcrop accommodation ... Really underlines the Kagga Kamma expe...

My husband and I broke away from the city buzz to celebrate our first year wedding anniversary.

On arrival we were greeted with a lukewarm reception - the office manager looked preoccupied.

The rooms were good and the views amazing. We stayed in one of the caves and did a game drive.

We mostly saw buck and overall only a FEW of the staff were friendly.

Very disappointing way to spend a 1st year anniversary as we had heard so many good reviews about it.

Would not recommend it.

Beautiful place, peaceful and quiet. We stayed in a hut with the most beautiful view and sunsets. The place is clean and the food was good. We love the lapa where we had dinner under the stars. Kagga Kamma is way too expensive for what it offers. It hardly has any game on the reserve - that's the main reason for going to a game reserve. If compared to other 4 and 5 star game reserves in Limpopo (which includes three meals per day), Kagga Kamma's pricing is ridiculous. The Saturday a group of 17 people checked in. The Sunday morning, the kitchen couldn't cope with serving breakfast. We waited more than an hour and a half, after which we got the wrong order and then decided to leave without having breakfast. - Well travelled

Room Tip: We've stayed in the rooms before. The huts are much more spacious and perfect for two.

We stayed here as part of our honeymoon and it was just what we needed - so relaxing! The guides are very knowledgeable and it's a unique safari experience. The food is FANTASTIC. Shocking considering how remote the location is - some of the best meals we had anywhere we stayed in South Africa, which does help to justify the price. We stayed in one of the caves, and while we had a few spiders (and one scorpion...), it was still really cool. Just maybe check your bed before you hop in!

We spend a wonderful day at Kagga Kamma Private Game Resort. It was an exceptional experience in a very unique place. We enjoyed the isolation and peacefulness away from the busy city. The staff are exceptional friendly and helpful. We liked the clean unique modern cave accommodation that is equipped with air conditioner and all other facilities like in a hotel. We did the bushman tour and the sun downer trip. The history and bushman drawings were very interesting. We also saw some antelope and other animals on the game drive. We hiked on one of the many hiking trails and found the formation of rocks very interesting. The gravel road to Kamma Kagga is mostly good but there are parts that can be improved. All in all we had a pleasant time and were glad we visited this unique place.

What a wonderful experience. Food, accommodation and location were just out of this world. While driving to the resort along the 35km of dirt road I was concerned about what we would do all day out here but there were so many things laid on by the gamewardens that there was no time to get bored. From sunset tours to stargazing. Game drives to seeing the cave drawings. All accompanied by very knowledgeable and wonderful game wardens. Saw lots of animals. Went on a trek through the rocks and had fabulous BBQs in the outdoor eating area. Would recommend this place to anyone

Room Tip: Not a bad room in the resort. We stayed in the cave rooms which only sleep two. Family groups stay i...

Yes, it is a unique experience, but really, at the rates that they charge for a night in a hut or cave, and the facilities, to our family.....definitely worth it. This would have been a nice weekend if prices are competitive to Camping, or to other Nature, bush, similar resorts. Definitely not at the 5 star price they charge. Restaurant also extremely expensive, i.e. for a 300 g steak anything between
R150 to R195, burger R90, entrees up to R 90, cakes R 75 per slice! We are a family of 4, kids 11 and 12 who shared a very uncomfortable sleeping couch, in our room, which made the room very small.
We arrived late Friday, and checked out sunday morning. Had our own wine( paid corkage), 1 lunch, 2 dinners and 2 breakfasts, 2 massages NO extras like game drives or bushmen walk...( we did our own walking and driving around)
and our bill came to just under R13 0000!!!!!! Shocking!
S
It was disapointing

Room Tip: Huts have more space than caves
