“Great place to catch a bite and a few beers”
Reviewed March 12, 2012

Stopped in last night for dinner and the place was pretty busy. I had a hard time deciding between the brick oven pizza and the ribs. In the end I ordered the ribs with fries, beans and coleslaw.

The ribs were tender, but the bbq sauce was a bit on the sweet side for me. The homemade fries and beans were very good. The coleslaw was dry and had very little taste.

The service was excellent and best of all Sunday was $3.00 draft Guinness, so I had to have a couple of pints :)

Overall I would say it was a good value for the money, but next time I am going to try the pizza.

As others noted, parking is very tight, plan to arrive early or plan to take a short walk.

“Amazing architecture, atmosphere and great food!!!”
Reviewed January 22, 2012

This restaurant is a must for anyone visiting the Harrisburg/Heshey area. The building is very unique and classy. It had been an actual gas station years ago and has been converted into a very eclectic and classy restaurant. The atmosphere is friendly, the wait staff and bartenders were excellent. Great place for a date or special occasion or just to meet family and friends. There are rooms that hold large groups yet small intimate tables scattered throughout. The lighting at night creates a warm and cozy atmosphere. The food was excellent. The menu varied and would appeal to all tastes and preferences. From unusual appetizers to wings to elegant entrees-our group tried it all and no one was disappointed. After meeting friends there a few weeks back, I returned a week later for an intimate dinner with my husband. We had to wait a few minutes for a table and sat at the bar. The bartender was attentive and the drinks were good. This is on our list of where to take people when they visit the area for sure!

“Eating out should be a relaxing and enjoyable experience, not a battle and a long delay to receive mediocre food.”
Reviewed January 8, 2012

Yesterday's visit to the Gas Station will be our last - it was a major disappointment. Low points were the unprofessional staff, mediocre food that took forever to arrive, and automatic 20% gratuity that is not mentioned on the menu or on ordering.

After our party of 7 was seated, we waited about 10 minutes for a waitress to come and take our drink order. When she took our drink order, she made an insulting comment about the fact that several members of our party ordered water instead of a more expensive drink. Then another 10-15 minutes waiting to order food. When she finally took our food order it was after taking the order of a large group that had been seated after us. We mentioned this to her, and she lied, saying she'd only taken one person's order. This was obvious when the food was delivered.

My sandwich was lousy. I ordered the vegetable sandwich, and it was low on vegetables or sauce. It did not compare to many other restaurants' vegetable sandwiches I've had in the past, including others in the Hershey/Hummelstown area. My daughter ordered a pasta with tomato sauce. It was delivered without tomato sauce or even any visible sauce. When she asked for tomato sauce, they took 10 minutes to come up with "brown butter" sauce, something that was never mentioned on the menu. She cannot eat "brown butter" sauce and asked for the tomato sauce that was listed in the description of the entree on the menu. Finally it was delivered, but after the 15-minute wait her food was cold. No offer to heat it up. Another member of our party ordered a hamburger with extra onions, which was delivered without the onions. He waited while the onions were prepared, so the hamburger was also quite cold when he started eating. Again, no offer to heat it up. The other members of our party ordered the free-range chicken, chicken wings, and a chicken wrap, and were satisfied. Unfortunately, it took 1.25 hours for the food to arrive, after we'd entered the restaurant (after calling ahead).

After we'd finished the meal, the manager stopped by our table to ask how the dinner had been. I told him we were disappointed. Rather than going into the list of problems above, I only mentioned the 1.25 hour time it took to get food. He mumbled something, made no attempt to explain or otherwise respond in a friendly way, and shuffled off. We never saw him again.

A few minutes later, we asked for the check. The waitress brought it promptly, with a 20% gratuity built in. Although she mentioned the gratuity to us as she delivered the check, the automatic gratuity was not mentioned on the menu, and she had never mentioned it to us earlier. We were surprised and objected to the high number (20%) and the fact that we had never been told about it. She explained that the automatic charge was the restaurant policy for parties over 6. I think if she had mentioned it earlier, we would have agreed without a problem, but given the poor service we received, it seemed like one more kick in the teeth. When we discussed our surprise at this charge, with her, she made another crack about a member of our party, saying that they should go back where they came from.

All in all, you couldn't pay me to go back to this restaurant. They have a real problem with professionalism, which involves the management and at least one server. The food quality is not on par with other restaurants in the area. Eating out should be a relaxing and enjoyable experience, not a battle and a long delay to receive mediocre food.
