My brother, sister, self and family celebrated a 35 year reunion over the labor day weekend. It was great to return after all those years. We had a blast of a time yet again. Although more accustomed to state park camping, Hershey certainly has it all. There is a nice general store on the grounds. Forgot to pack the butter and pancake syrup? Yep, they got it! Everything you might need is just down the road. K-Mart, Applebees, a diner and other shopping and eating options are just two minutes away. The campground itself was clean and facilities conveniently located, the staff friendly All in all it is a nice place to camp with family with small kids. This weekend the campground was packed; tent upon tent upon trailer upon trailer, but everyone acted well and it was a good family experience.

The deluxe cabins are really trailers with faux cabin exteriors. They are air-conditioned, sleep around 7 comfortably and come with almost everything you need. (You bring linens, towels, etc.) There are firepits at each cabin, and two pools are within walking distance. There is a train track about three hundred yards behind the cabins, but you cannot hear the trains when you are in the cabins -- and there is no traffic crossing, so no train whistles.

When the "Inn" is charging upwards of 500+ per night for a bed, the cabins are a HUGE bargain. Shuttle buses take you everywhere you need to go. Service is great! Definitely stay again.

Pros: much cheaper tickets to the park if you buy them here. clean bathrooms. convenient shuttle which allows you to avoid the parking fees ($12/day).
Cons: the freight train which sounded louder than a jet which ran about every hour all night long. Couldn't sleep in the tent. Sounded like it was barreling down upon me. Tried to sleep in the car but couldn't get comfortable. Therefore no sleep at all.
End result: it's not worth it. Not at all. We got no sleep which made the park unbearable the next day.
I don't know how Hershey could put a campground right next to a freight train.

Room Tip: stay far, far way from the side where the freight train runs

The campground should be 4 or 5 stars, but I just can't rate it any higher than Terrible. The bathrooms were clean, the sites nice (a little close together, but nice) and pretty level. But we were in a site on the upper loop that has a freight train RIGHT next to it - that runs ALL NIGHT! The first night we were there - every 45 minutes or so ALL NIGHT LONG. We got no sleep, not a way to start a vacation. The next night it was a little better - or we were just so tired, but sill come 4am, I was up and the train was rumbling along. And it is LOUD, like can't hear the person sitting next to you without yelling loud. We were in a pop up, and I thought it was going to come right through. By the third night I was looking for hotels. We did end up leaving a day early - just to come home and have a good night's sleep.

This is too bad - the rest of this campground was very nice. Two nice pools, very clean restrooms and nice showers. The grounds were very clean and the shuttle bus to Hershey Park was great - saved the $12 to park.

Hershey Park was very nice - clean and lots of great rides for younger kids and older kids.

However, no vacation is much fun when you don't get enough sleep - and that's what happened to us.

I would like to return to Hershey Park, but NEVER back to the campground.

Room Tip: If you do decide to go here - stay away from the upper loop - lower area or nothing - and don't say you weren't warned.

The grounds were well kept, the staff polite and helpful on site and the grounds are convenient to Hershey Park with shuttles every half hour. There is a significant discount for park tickets in the camp store and an even greater discount for seniors which was never mentioned in any literature. The train was close and blew it's whistle but after the first time we didn't notice it. My only criticism is that they messed up our reservations made a few months earlier. I didn't know I should have gotten a confirmation email for each night, but after my unlady-like temper tantrum they found a space for us. It required we move over the weekend and the second space was a little small for our rig but they went out of their way to fix the problem on one of the worst travel weekends of the year.

Room Tip: Make sure you get the name of the person making the reservation and when you should receive the confirming email for your slot.
