Owner description: Natural Splendor along the Swatara.Like many caverns in the Mid-Atlantic states, Indian Echo Caverns is a limestone cave. Cut through Beekmantown limestone, which is over 440 million years old, they were formed through the erosive properties of water. As time progressed, geological forces led to an "uplift" of the surrounding limestone, eventually allowing more and more water to flow through the formation. As the water flowed over the limestone, it began to create small crevices, these small crevices led to larger ones, and eventually, over a series of millions of years, it created the caverns as they are today. The temperature inside the caverns is 52 degrees year around.

“Nice day trip with the family :)”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 4, 2013

We spent our Labor Day weekend visiting the caverns. A cheap day trip, and a short drive from our home in Lancaster, and kids can handle that!
The caverns are beautiful! I love exploring caves and the tour of caverns helped understanding all the different kinds of formations in caves.
It is a cool 52 degrees in there, so don't forget your sweatshirt, and sneakers for the hike in. Can get slippery at times.
The gift shop has some nice things, and the kids enjoyed "panning for treasures" as well.
Not much else to do other than feed the goats or play at the small playground.
Overall, nice day trip with the family! :)

“Great for families”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 4, 2013

Really cool experience, great tour guide. There are a lot of steps to and from caverns, but it's doable, hey I carried a one year old. You can do it and there are flat spots if you need a break. Great photos.

“Don't forget to show your coupon at the register!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 3, 2013

An otherwise glowing review is soured because we forgot to show the coupon we found online until after our MC was swiped. Sorry folks, they point to the big sign on the counter that says SHOW YOUR COUPONS AT TOME OF PURCHASE

Well, they mean it. There was no sympathy by the staff member. No 3$ off.

The cavern however was very cool, our guide was funny, nice and was able to keep our tour of about 20 people organized and entertained. We tipped him well.

It is unfortunate that our transaction at the ticket counter was suboptimal, management has made a rule that takes advantage of tourists, with no chance for the cashier to make things right.

“Good trip”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 3, 2013

Had a good time at the caverns. Although i think Indian caverns should let people know about the steps down and the steps up..Very steep..Also theres should be a sign for people to wear sneakers. I knew what to expect so I wore sneakers..It was alittle slippery in the caverns..Tour was fun though and very nice inside the caverns...

“Nice surprise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 2, 2013

Take the 45 minute tour in the comfortable 52 degree caverns for some amazing and stunning formations underground. The tour guides are rather comical, which add to the enjoyment. The gift shop is nice, and you can even " pan for treasure". Our kids had a great time, well worth the stop. Just minutes from Hershey Park.
