My sister and I wanted to get away over the Christmas holiday and chose the Nature Inn at Bald Eagle State Park, Howard, Pa. The atmosphere was very relaxing, friendly and accommodating. The inn keeper and staff were wonderful - even planning a special breakfast Christmas morning. The inn is "green" and also has every need met, even before it arises. We plan to visit again in a different season to experience the beauty of the region and charm and comfort of the Inn. Can't say enough good things about the Nature Inn!!!!

Whose inspiration created this gem of a hotel? OK...it's 20 minutes outside State College on a route that will be much easier to find once they provide a map and directions on the website, but so worth the extra miles! It has all the feel of a modern park "lodge" and special appeal for bird lovers, but with Wifi, Satellite TV, nature trails and a truly gracious staff, it would be hard for any guest not to feel at home here. The panoramic views of the lake are great to savor (our single room had a sweet little balcony on the lakeview side) even if you don't want to use the binoculars and bird guide provided. This hotel is a stand out all on its own for its "green" features and natural setting, although if you're looking for a place to stay near Penn State, choosing to stay here will add a whole new dimension to your Happy Valley experience.

My husband & I joined our daughter & her family at the Nature Inn the weekend of the full moon. What glorious scenes to enjoy! We shared a suite very comfortably. Those who could hike, did so. I couldn't, so I sat on the deck watching activities around me. Other family joined us for Saturday night dinner, which we cooked on one of the grills. The staff set up a table for the 9 of us inside near the fireplace (a bit too cool to eat outside). We had a great time interacting with the staff, other guests, and family. We hope to come back for a family reunion with the rest of the family. Of course, the highlight of the weekend was watching two bald eagles working on their nest across the lake --- viewed through the Nature Inn's telescope.

We stayed at the Nature Inn at Bald Eagle State Park at the end of September 2010. The rooms were gorgeous and the staff bent over backwards to make us feel welcome and comfortable. The hotel was build using LID standards, including cisterns collecting rainwater to flush toliets and rain gardens on the property to reduce excessive runoff and erosion. The Innkeeper/Chef was just amazing, working late into the night to feed and entertain guests. He even built us a fire so we could make s'mores. The breakfasts are included in the price of the room and were our best meal of the day. Omelets, scrambled eggs, sauage, bacon, oatmeal, fresh fruit salad, bagels, toast, and more were available to choose from. The rooms are very clean and modern, with huge bathrooms and great views. There is also a wonderful outside terrace area for bird and wildlife watching.

This is a new idea from the DCNR and Pa state park system to encourage people who want the comfort of an inn and still enjoy the beautiful Bald Eagle State Park. For 2 days this was our home base to enjoy the PA Wilds. The inn itself is clean, roomy, flat screen/ satellite TV, all the comforts of home, and great views/use of a large lake and a library ! Suites are also available with kitchenettes. The staff couldn't have been nicer and the included " hot" breakfast was great, you can also order up a nice box lunch to take with you. The rooms have balconies/patios and you can also enjoy the public patios with the built inn gas grills. Great relaxing atmosphere and super area for some of PA's greatest parks.
