A friend and I stayed here this past weekend. We had a two bedroom suite. The large space was clean and very comfortable. We were very pleased with the rooms, especially for the price. We had dinner in the restaurant and it was exceptional. I am from DC and my friend is from NY and the dining experience was comparable to fine dining in either area, except with a much lower price tag. The manager, Jim, was friendly and very hospitable. A wonderful stay and a fantastic value. I would recommend to friends and I would definitely stay there again if in the area.

Room Tip: If more than one person, the 2 bedroom suite with a kitchen was perfect. We did not hear any noise...

We arrived by Shortline/Coach USA bus from NYC and walked only 2-blocks to the hotel. We had reserved one of the 2-bedroom suites with kitchen. We met a friend in the hotel dining room for lunch and the table was ready when we arrived. Of the 3 of us for lunch: one vegan, one vegetarian and one rabid carnivore (the 92 year old woman!) There were ample offerings for any diet and I thoroughly enjoyed my gigantic veggie burger and pile of fries (the Caprese salad was huge and wonderful). The waitress, service and food were excellent and we were casually told that we could feel free to ask for anything during our stay. Very unpretentious; matter-of-fact good service. The hallways are lined with paintings by local artist Becker, which complement the decor and the period-atmosphere. The 2-bedroom suite on the 2nd floor was spacious and very well appointed. In the evening, the lounge and restaurant were alive with guests and locals, and it was a nice, adult atmosphere: fun but not nuts. Reminder: if you're going to be hyper-sensitive to issues like parking, room service and people falling all over you; this isn't the place for you. This is just a period hotel with excellent service and ammenities. We had a small gathering in the evening in the suite with old friends and even the mayor of a neighboring borough came by. ALL were impressed by the suite and the hotel, in general. I would go back in a minute (and intend to).
Enjoy!

Room Tip: Bigger is better, I assume, as the prices were very reasonable.

We stayed here one night with friends and had a memorable experience and lots of fun in the bar in the evening. We would stay there again. It was like going back in time 100 years. Small office off the entrance hall was where the registration was located. Room keys were real keys. No elevator. We stayed on the third floor. Doors and keys had to be giggled at times to get them to work right (part of the charm). Rooms were large and clean. Beds were clean and comfortable. Bathroom was small but clean but it was somewhat difficult to adjust shower water temperature. Sink in our room was outside the bathroom, which we like. Electrical outlets were lacking, especially at the sink area, but there was an extension cord. Room heat was comfortable and not noisy, a definite plus! Nice bar and restaurant on the first floor, which was full that evening. Coffee in lobby in the morning but no breakfast in the hotel. Not a place for someone who needs handicapped accommodations. Parking was limited. Check out their website http://www.hotelwayne.com/ It might be just the type of place you are looking for.

Room Tip: Since there is no elevator you may want rooms on the second floor instead of the third floor. You al...

If you are driving into this area of the region, there are no cookie cutter Courtyards and Hiltons around... They are all B&Bs and practically no air conditioning anywhere.

We decided to stay here and experience the ambience of a hotel that is historic. We found the employees very accommodating and so very kind and helpful. We asked questions!! We didn't just expect to know.

Loved the food in the restaurant, the diner down the road, being right on Main Street and being able to look out at the creek?? and the town happenings. It's a small town! And comfort level is really very homey and people will smile if you smile at them and are very nice.

No the room is not what you would find at the Courtyard but honestly it is what it is and it added to the feel of what the hotel is and as old as the hotel is, we were fine enjoying the time warp feel. Just make sure you bring a lot of your own towels!! Although they were great at finding them for us.

We did really enjoy our stay and loved the charm and ambience of the establishment and yes I would 100% recommend it to friends if they're in the area.

=D

Pros and Cons? Let’s start with the “cons” for this hotel. No parking available unless you like feeding coins to the meter all day. They said there was parking in a lot next door – they didn’t tell you that during the week it’s completely full and that it gets chain-locked at night. Not much heat in the room and no thermostat – when we requested that they turn up the room temp, they brought in a mini-radiator which worked fine until it blew the circuit breaker! They offered to move us to a postage sized room for the same price (NOT!) but then miraculously found a maintenance person who knew how to re-set the circuit breaker. No in-room coffeemaker and no morning beverage service available in the lobby – such a small amenity that would bring so much convenience to the guests. No elevator – which was not a large issue for us, but be warned if you have lots of luggage or are on the third floor. And the shower, although the water was comfortable, was so forceful that it hurt and faucet adjustments did not help. There’s more…much more…but you get the idea.

And the “pros?” Well, as hard as we tried to be open-minded, we could not find any. Next time, we’ll be heading out about 6 miles north to a B&B at the “pond.” Search the net – you’ll find it too…

hotelwayne, General Manager at Hotel Wayne, responded to this review, December 17, 2011
While we are sorry for the experience that did meet expectations, we would like to stress that the Hotel Wayne is a registered historic site celebrating its 185th year in operation. It is not a modern facility with unlimited electrical capacity or parking.

This visit was during a very unusual October snowstorm, which was not mentioned by the reviewer, and the staff went out of their way, as always, to accomodate this guest.

The Hotel Wayne is not your run of the mill Holiday Inn. It is quaint, dated, has a few flaws, but was a good experience.
The good: The staff of the hotel and the restaurant were exceptionally friendly and helpful. They know good customer service and provide it.
The room and beds were very clean and comfortable and did not have any chemical smells like "Fabrese" or Lysol.
The food at the bar/restaurant was just excellent and very reasonable. The atmosphere was like walking into a movie set from th 1910's.

The not-so-good: The rooms are dated - the door latch did not meet the door frame, requiring the door to be deadbolted to keep it shut.
The shower head leaked incredibly - soaking the ceiling and floor - it needed a good wrench! The room was at the head of the stairs, so the noise from the bar came right up into the room. Once the bar closed, it was perfectly quiet.
The towels were incredibly thin and rough.
Parking was very difficult to find for a pickup pulling a trailer. The hotel lot was WAY too small and there was no available parking on the street. I ended up n the lot for the Wayne Hospital and nobody bothered me.
At 6AM, when we left there was nobody in evidence and we let ourselves out.
All in all, we had a comfortable place to sleep and a great meal. It was like being in your Grandmother's spare room back in the 50's!

Room Tip: Maybe the rooms at the end of the hall away from the stairs might be quieter - farther from the bar.

If you're addicted to the almost cookie cutter hotels and their lobbies and their rooms, this stately gem will help snap you out of it. And if you'd just like a change of pace, this hotel will certainly help. Approaching the Hotel Wayne, my wife and I first took an uncomfortable wince, with the sense of "maybe we should change our minds and find someplace else." Driving around the block to find the entrance to its gravel surfaced, free parking lot that is punctuated only by a large garbage dumpster did not help, nor did the need to pull our overnight bags back around the block make our arrival qualms easier. BUT finally making it inside this hotel began a most enjoyable and memorable experience. If we ever questioned the authenticity of old Westerns, I'd guess that some of them might have been filmed at the Hotel Wayne.

Greeted by a General Manager with an infectious smile who is just as friendly and helpful as an old Andy Griffith show character, we immediately began to relax and smile. As he checked-us in, he apologized for the fact that this hotel dating from the 1800's only has stairs to lead you to the rooms on the second and third floors as he handed us our key and offeed to personally carry our bags upstairs. There's no plastic swipe card here. The huge center stairs are surprisingly easy to walk and seemingly minimized by the height of the celings on each of the three florrs. No, this is not cookie cutter.

Although the rooms are neat, clean and functional, there is nothing remotely elaborate about the rooms. Everything worked fine - remote television, free wi-fi, telephone, air conditioner, hangers, comfortable bed, large soft towels (but we did need extra towels that we picked-up at the office on the first floor on a later trip upstairs.)

There's a large saloon on the main floor compete with big screen television and optional outside porch table service if you like. And there's a wonderful, beuatifully decorated, reasonably priced three diamond AAA certified restaurant, whte table cloths, diverse menu with everything from burgers to horseradish encrusted salmon, with a CIA trained chef at the helm. Even on a Wednesday evening, the restaurant was crowded and service was prompt and courteous as a handful of servers raced around to assure satisfaction.

On the way home from the Hotel Wayne we passed lots of hotels. Although there is no gym, spa, elevator or steam misting whirlpool tub, for better or worse the Hotel Wayne took some fo the polish off of those name brand hotels that we have come to rely upon as it reminded us that there used to be another way to enjoy a hotel stay.
